Great atmosphere….average food.Been here twice now. The atmosphere is wonderful with the open fire but much of the food misses the mark. If you order schnitzel or bangers and mash you’re safe but anything that should have depth of flavour like meatballs, bolognese or pie is really bland and lacks any flavour. Garlic, basil and oregano guys try throwing it into your food!
Room for improvement. After my second visit there, the scales tipped a little to the negative side for me. The food concepts are good, with ‘paddock to plate’ being a term used by them with references to down to earth english celebrity chefs on their website. The primary issue with The George is that they charge too much. Perhaps with the duck confit and the salmon dish they can get away with charging over 30 bucks, but even then – I have eaten as well, if not better, for less. The last visit was a dinner for two with one glass of wine which came to over 100 dollars. Two mains, garden salad, a plate of chips, a glass of wine and one short black. Too much in most peoples books. Wine is most notably overpriced at 9 bucks for the glass.Atmosphere and general feel is good. After being seated, we looked through the menu. We waited a further 25 minutes before I approached staff at the register and asked if we could order now. The man that seated us asked, ‘which table where you on?’. ‘Ah the one you seated us on over there…’ I replied. Never mind. These things happen in restaurants, people are forgotten, but not usually in ‘higher end’ dining rooms where the price would ensure it doesn’t. Our waitress who took over seemed more apologetic then the man responsible, and after chatting to us, she went to ask the kitchen to speed it along. Everything was relatively smooth after that. Coffee was average, duck and pie dishes were tasty enough and adequately sized, though shoestring fries helped to bulk things out and the salad refreshed. After tallying the bill to just under 100 bucks, our waitress informed us that she forgot the public holiday surcharge which took us over the mark. Could’ve cut us a free drink for the initial wait, or offered a coffee on the house. Not likely to go back soon without some changes to the pricing, or at least lifting the menu to meet the prices.
George bar and dining bungendore. I had chicken pizza and got about six pieces of chicken and massed cheese lump over a skimp of tomato sauce …….i make much tastier and more interesting pizza at home…this was 18.00 and so boring even the crust was boring. And to top it off i was charged 8.00 for aa single glass of wine and received the wrong change…Will not be back.
