Best eaten hot & fresh, these dorayaki are effectively a Japanese pikelet sandwich with filling of your choice. They have basic versions (i.e. filled with red bean filling, nutella, cream, etc.) or premium versions, which include a scoop of icecream. I came here mainly to redeem a Groupon voucher (better value than retail price) and opted for the combination of flavours including their red bean + mochi, brown sugar + red bean, purple yam, and chunky peanut + nutella. They do make their pikelets fresh but will attempt to offload their (c)older batch and therefore the dorayaki were part warm, part cold. I tried the red bean + mochi one on the way home, which was pretty much what you’d expect of a pikelet sandwich, and then put the rest in my freezer for later consumption – instructions say that you can eat within 2-3 days at room temperature, or can freeze for up to 20 days, and microwave briefly before eating… however with the recent hot Sydney temperatures, I wouldn’t risk leaving them lying on my kitchen counter.
As I took my first bite eating a Fujimi Dorayaki, it transcend me to another world. This is the best dessert that I have eaten so far. The Dorayaki was fluffy, chocolaty, you can taste the chocolate hitting your taste buds and it was an amazing experience.(To be continued)
Fujimi is a small takeaway counter in the new Burwood Chinatown that serves dorayaki in various flavours and toppings combinations. Dorayaki are basically two pikelets sandwiching a filling of your choice, and a good size if you’re getting peckish.. I had a classic red bean dorayaki. Keep in mind that it’s best eaten warm though, so ask for a freshly made one if there are prepacked ones sitting around.
Really its what you get. My missus loved her peanut butter custard but I didnt think much of it. While my one I enjoyed more. Plenty of options to choose from.
