I’ll admit the dish f.a.t‘s name might need some work, but I loved every bite of it. Warm garlicy fetta was smashed with creamy fresh avocado and topped with chopped basil, tomatoes and spanish onion on toasted sourdough toast. It made for the perfect start to my vegetarian month.
Bangalow Espresso Pizza Bar – Bangalow, NSW. Your typical brunch-esque eatery by day, a pizzeria by night. So goes this little, secluded eatery along Bangalow’s main street. The idea is interesting, does the execution work? Well, the first part – its day job – is competently done with a wholesome choice you would come to expect and fantastic seating out the back. Walk along the main street and you will soon find an intersection that includes a zebra crossing and the alcohol shop; diagonal from the alcohol shop is a veranda that leads to a couple of hidden places. The first one is sort of a yum cha shop with exotic teas, gifts and Asian groceries. The other one is the Espresso Pizza Bar. Its hiding might be the strong suit from the other restaurants. Most of the time, the other restaurants are very busy and a lot of traffic (foot and wheel) are constantly going past and/or coming into the shop. Here, it is a lot more quiet than the other offerings in sight. When I was here with my brother in law for a spot of breakfast, we got a sweet and a sandwich to split between us with a coffee each. Both coffees were a double shot cappuccino; on the side were a smoked salmon sandwich and a blueberry friand. The smoked salmon sandwich was on Turkish bread with capers, red onion, cream cheese and rocket. This is a bit of a standard combination to fill a sandwich, but it was really good with each component having a distinct flavour. The bread that was used was toasted perfectly. The friand may have been a bit small, but it was moist and good afterwards. They used actual blueberries which made it flavourful and a saving grace for being so small. However, I cannot say much about the coffee. For a double shot, it was a bit lacking in strength and flavour; with the amount of chocolate powder on the top it felt more akin to a mocha latte than anything. Still, at least it had a decent texture to it. I might return here in the future; food is what you expect it to be but might order coffee stronger next time than this.
