Modern Italian served in a classy atmosphere.Great food selections but be prepared to fork out the extra cash as this place can get quite pricy with mains edging close to $40. we ended up going with the two pasta options. The ravioli with ricotta and goats curd was the real winner with an inventive and creative presentation to match. I highly recommend this dish and the chianti wine to compliment. The service was lovely and friendly also as they squeezed us in on a Saturday night without a reservation.
We came here for dinner on the same day as we’d had a long lunch at Harvest following complications with our accommodation, and I can only imagine how much I would have enjoyed it if I wasn’t already fairly well fed!We eat well and this was by far the best meal we had in the Byron area, and one of the best I’ve had in a while.Aside from the great food, Cicchetti nails down some other important factors. The decor is very modern, and while dimly lit is not overly so. Everything from the light fixtures to the tables and chairs, from the bathrooms to the bar is done well and done right. Tables either look into the open kitchen or out onto the street. The service was faultless from beginning to end, from the greeting at the door by the maitre’d, to our table service. The wine list is very decent, with a sufficient smattering of offerings by the glass. Had some great Italian white varietals – and with verdicchio, pinot grigio and soave they had some of my favourites covered. The food was excellent. An incredibly good lightly battered calamari with tempura zucchini was served with a saffron mayonnaise, but was so beautifully tender did not require the latter. Taleggio croquettes did not do it for me, but then again croquettes never really do – deep fried cheese is just cheating. Ring-shaped pasta served with scallops and onions may have lost something of the scallop, but was cooked perfectly and absolutely wonderful. The slow cooked pork collar was also very good, although aside from the croquettes would probably be the only other dish I would not rush back to eat again. The biggest surprise came in the salad. As a staunch member of the NoCarrotsinSalads lobby, I only ordered this one because I really needed something green to help realign my chakra. It was all-in-all a very, very simple yet impressive dish, with only a smattering of julienned carrots and served with sunflower seeds, with a dressing that was perfect.Dessert was a shared mango panacotta, which although perhaps a bit firm for my liking was very pleasant nonetheless.A very unexpected, yet excellent experience, this would have to be my favourite restaurant in the Byron area, with St Elmo coming a close second. Highly recommended.
Great atmosphere and busy restaurant, the bar produces very nice cocktails.Entree are absolutely delicious same as mains. Very disappointed with their pasta, from an italian chef and italian owners you expect much more than what you get,Lasagnetta and orecchiette different dishes and same flavours. Lasagnetta not cooked properly and still cold in the middle, orecchiette slightly overcooked and heavy combination of ingredient.Probably kitchen under massive pressure due to a very busy night.Nice food overall
Service was extremely attentive. After a couple of big nights, having my water glass constantly topped up by an invisible ninja was extremely appreciated.Entree- truffle buratta w/ grilled zucchini on sourdough. Just wow. Creamy, rich and the zucchini was a great balance.Mains – orechiette w/ broccoli puree and Italian sausage. I won’t ruin the surprise but another standout dish with the right balance of veggies with everything else.Seafood spaghetti – seafood was fresh, prawns were crunchy, sauce complimented rather than overpowered and pasta was al dente.
