Tried out this Cafe about a month ago. Their Fish n Chips was delicious. Then I took me daughter there, and she loved it.I then went with me wife and all me kids on a Saturday Morning. Ordered a Fish n Chips again and I was telling me wife that this may be me first ever favourite Cafe, and we ordered other dishes and drinks.Once we were served, I realised after I ate half of the fish that it was a little thick in the middle and it wasn’t cooked on the inside. It was cooler in temperature as well.I told a mature Vietnamese lady there that the fish wasn’t fully ready, and she replied that she will re-fry it. Remember I already ate half of this piece of fish !That reply made me think that why wouldn’t she replace the piece of fish like any other food and beverage stores would. But then I didn’t let it get to me. However with my wife, it was a different story. My wife has told me that a restaurant should never re-fry anything that has been placed in someones mouth or have been used by utensils, into the same oil that it has came out from, especially in a public restaurant. What if this is a common practice and I have AIDS, hepatitis, cancer, open wound in my mouth or whatever disease that I carry and imagine someone else’s dish gets made by the same oil that my disease went into.I do love fish and chips, it was my favourite dish as a child, and its not easy to find a restaurant in Cabramatta or anywhere around that serves good Fish and Chips as compared to back in the old days of the 80’s.These days I have not tasted anything nice of any Fish and Chips around. Its either too oily, too small, too much batter and all else.It is a shame that this Cafe is unhygienic in that sense. I wonder what diseases I have been shared with from strangers, because as you know, not all restaurants/Milk bars/Fish and Chips shops change their oils on a daily basis, as its an expensive thing to do.I no longer come into this Cafe store.
Been here twice for the 10 dollar steak. The food arrives pretty quickly and is also good quality for its cheap price. I’ve asked for a medium rare both times, but usually it arrives a bit more over-cooked than I would have liked. But its still good 🙂
Cafe under new management: Great setting and friendly staff . Ordered an espresso and cappuccino, which came very fast despite it being busy. Espresso had a creamy and smooth taste, really silky. Sweet aftertaste and no bitterness. Coffee on par with those in Italy. Highly recommended.
Came in for a quick half hour coffee with my husband before Tan Viet opened. The lady who served us had poor attitude as we only ordered coffee and not any food. I looked around to notice quite a few people like us only drinking coffee. We wish we had gone to Gloria Jeans instead. The cappuccino wasn’t bad.
Before Cafe Rise this busy John St corner of Cabra was the location of the council’s CCTV office. When that got moved to the new $13m Police Station, the new owners turned it into an old style cafe. It’s had several owners since but the common denominator was zinging against the zapping of multiple pho and Asian restaurants. Here you’ll get fish and chips, burgers, shakes, banana bread and cafe sandwiches. Mornings are pretty popular with cigarette wielding locals sipping coffee. Coffee is fine as is the big breakfast special. Bread is white, well toasted and very well buttered, bacon is a fatty cut, sausage is oily. Eggs are perfectly sunny side up. They promise old style cafe and deliver just that. Don’t come with a Surry Hills sensibility and you’ll leave satisfied. noodlies.com
Cheap steak and delicious sandwiches!
Cheap prices with good portions. $10 steak, chips and salad is awesome!
