Weve been four times now each time hoping that it was an off night in the kitchen previously but can now say conclusively that the food here is consistently of very poor standard. We wanted to like it as its a nice casual neighbourhood pub and pleasant to visit but the food just isnt up to scratch sadly. Nice for a drink maybe. And theres usually a cricket match on TV from around the world. That gets my vote!
Good service and atmosphere but I found the food to be lacking. I love the sound of the menu but unfortunately our shared plates didn’t quite hit the mark. We had the octopus, lamb, fried cheese and chicken small plates. Maybe we had an off night so I’ll be back to try again.
Cammerays answer to a trendy pub (was never a fan of the old Belgian Beer Cafe), with a Greek/Mediterranean inspired menu. Living in Cammeray, ive been to The Public on countless occasions. From meals with friends to a few causal drinks at the bar. With a fantastic buzzing vibe and always with a great crowd.Ive had a chance to try quite a lot of the menu and have been able to narrow down to a few favourites.Chickpea and tahini hummus with pitaChargrilled octopusSpiced lamb hummus, pine nuts and pitaSpiced quail saladDuck SouvlakiPulled Lamb Burger johombsch.com
I went to The Public on a recent trip to Cammeray. Annoyingly for my friends, I am a Pescatarian. This can be challenging with Greek cuisine AND share food, but the manager was very helpful and pointed me to a range of dishes I could enjoy. The menu has an extensive list of great vegetable and fish dishes. The food was excellent and they have a great range of tap beers. The fitout look great- so much better than what was there previously!A great atmosphere and afternoon with friends. I will be back.
About the noisiest dinner ever.My husband and I had to shout over a half meter distance to have a conversation and we gave up. Food was very unbalanced with raw garlic in the prawn saganaki and the spicy lamb with way too much sweetness for a savory meal. We live in Cammeray and we’re hoping this would be our new dinner spot so we were very disappointed. Service patchy – we waited over 20 minutes to be offered a dessert or coffee after mains cleared. Needs a lot of work.
The Atmosphere was amazing. The four of us went last Thursday and the place was packed. We managed to find a booth fairly quickly and had the Chicken in Yoghurt App, The Hummus App, The Burger and Fish & chips. The staff was trying hard and managed fairly good service and were pleasant. The bar staff were great and the selection of beers is refreshing. Well done.Going back to the food, I have to say it was simply bland at best and quite poor in comparison with other venues around town. Very disappointing. Yes, we would be back for drinks ora social but not for food. We spent just under a $100 with 3 beers and food.
Ikea. Not sure who they are targeting however as you walk in its feel like IKEA and it’s cold! Not sure what TVs are for nor the tin camping plates. The food was great just the setting isn’t suited, more so for a back street of Paddington or darlinghurst.
