This is the last time I wing it and try a new place without checking its rating first. I really wanted a steak, and this place looked like the best bet for that among the open-past-5pm dining options at Macarthur Square. Im usually a very positive person, so let me start with the good: our server was beyond sweet, and was by far the best part of the experience. The baked potato I ordered was perfect. The onion rings (really more what I think of as onion straws) were nice. The steak was correctly cooked to the temperature I ordered it (rare). Unfortunately thats where the good ends. The $40 filet, which I was so looking forward to, and which the menu briefly mentions as being basted in a tasty sauce, was in fact unexpectedly drowned in so much bizarrely horrible barbecue sauce as to render it totally inedible. The Diane sauce was just absolutely awful. My husbands jalapeo poppers had a weird metallic flavour to them, and the salsa that accompanied them tasted more like tomato sauce than salsa – super sweet. The guacamole that was next to it was in fact an avocado dip that tasted completely horrendous. Im an American transplant in Australia, so Im used to the Aussie interpretation of Mexican foods and how different guac and salsa can be, but these were literally the worst Ive tasted in my four years living here.Honestly a nightmare of a meal for us and theres no way well be back. I hope the nice guy who served us gets a job somewhere with edible food – he deserves better!
