Decent-tasting steak on hot stones. Fun at first but the novelty wears off after a few visits. Decent size servings for these prices. Customer service is okay but you’d be lucky to find someone here who speaks decent English. Lots of other Vietnamese food options available – same menu as Gia Hoi as they were once under the same owner. Restaurant comes off a little dirty and don’t be surprised if you see a cockroach crawling around the restaurant here and there.
What I am about to write is base on my fair judgement and opinion. When my friend introduce me to this place, I was thinking, how good is the place can be?, but lets check it out!First, T-Bone , 350 gram, it cost you $14 with chips&salad or mashed & vege, plus choose of your sauce.Scotch fillet, 250 gram, cost you $20 with all condiments I mentioned above. Its too good to be true, but they have awards all over the wall stating finalist local business award 2017.With that I assumed they are serving good food to honor the award. What I do think, my scotch is a glued steak, and its tough and chewy as if you are having rump steak.Ok, ok, you cant complain with the price you are paying, and since I walked into this place I expecting quantity but not the quality meat.Sauce, I chose Diane is cold and gluey consistency, so thick and not pleasant to eat.For experience I dont mind to try, but if I have better option next door, I will definitely will go to better option with off course paying little extra to enjoy the quality meat.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad experience at Steak on the Rocks. I opt for the 350g Eye Fillet. The steak is always lean and fresh. It’s a unique experience to cook on a hot rock. I love it, will always go here when I have the chance.Only fault: As someone who isn’t of an Asian background, but am a local, the language barrier can be a little difficult.
Family decided to go there for dinner after hearing about it from many family friends. The interior of the restaurant was pretty nice and had a certificate as well as the fairly friendly service, which meant my expectations of the food was fairly high. Or so as I thought. I ordered the wagyu rump with chips, salad and mushroom sauce. My meal came out within 15 minutes and I liked the idea you can cook your own steak on a rock. Going into the steak, after spending time cooking it, the steak was fairly average and did not contain any taste of what wagyu was supposed to be like; in fact it felt like I was eating a normal piece of rump steak. The chips were fairly fried and crispy and the salad was fairly fresh with ranch sauce on top but if the steak did not live up to its expectations then theres not too much left to enjoy about it. Overall it was an okay experience but personally disappointed with the false marketing of serving wagyu steak when it wasnt even wagyu at all.
2 words. WAGYU SIRLOIN The dishes are fantastic and it’s also a fun part of the meal is cooking it yourself on the stone. The meat always is fresh and tasteful. The place is also very clean and easy to read menu.Prices are fairly high. And they will surcharge you for not paying in cash. Also depending on the staff member they won’t do split bills. I go here on average once every 8 weeks and on a few occasions they have made mistakes with our order, charging us for things we didn’t even order, never been undercharged surprisingly… only overcharged.
I got the bahn cuon dish and my friend got the steak. They said it was nice but they would have liked more. My dish was nice. It wasn’t too busy either.
A bit sticky on the sizzling plate, but overall the steaks were succulent and tender, especially the wagyu sirloin. Have tried J’s steak before and it isn’t even as good as these steaks. Highly recommended to all.
