I don’t know how this place got 3.9 out of 5. The place is just okay and it’s ordinary restaurant bar type. We were here at lunch time and there was no customer inside and we weren’t the only customer but we were like invisible. The service was not there and we had to go to the person to place order for lunch. Also, we had to pay things in advance, wow, we are not going to run away after lunch before paying the bill. Anyway, food came and it was really good! The portion was generous also. Even after all these good stuff I think one time visit is enough for us

Recently visited 221 for the second time, 2 years after my first visit. Loved it then and still love it now, certainly won’t be my last visit. Dishes range from classics done very well through to more complex offerings, all of which are well presented. Makes for a solid offering amongst the big guns of the region.

After dining at 221 during our last trip to the Hunter we just had to go back. Fresh, largely local produce is combined to create dishes which continue to impress. The wine list has also yet to disappoint, with the Oakvale shiraz (another local) definitely worth a try.
