Had a spontaneous hightea with a girl friend of mine here and was overall satisfied. We thoroughly enjoyed the view and the decor of the place. The service was also great. The scones were nice and fluffy, the sandwiches were also delicious. Cannot say the dessert selections were the best I had we had a great time here.
The last high tea we did was at The Ritz in London and it was awfully good. To be honest, I doubt any high tea can live up to those lofty heights set in London. But, the high tea at Restaurant Eighty Eight gave it a red hot run for its money. Located within the beautiful and old worldy The Convent, the setting asserts a tone of decadence, with French provincial styling, crisp white linen and a view out onto a wisteria-clad courtyard. To top it off, a tower of fresh sandwiches, scones, berries and little sweets is placed in front of you, accompanied by your choice of tea or coffee. If you want to dial up the decadence even further, you can add a glass of sparkling ($60pp), make that champagne ($65pp), or just stick to tea and coffee ($48pp) and head next door to PepperTree Wines’s cellar door once you’re done.
E I G H T Y ☆ E I G H TPublic announcement: worst restaurant I have ever been to! Bad service and food avoid at all costs! The duck was so over salted that we were ridiculously dehydrated! Couldn’t even finish it.We complained and was told that we do not have to pay for this dish. We were also told that we will get complementary tea/coffee yet was charge when we got the bill. The scallops were literally the size of a 10 cent coin. Felt like we were being served rejected food. The ‘pancake’ dessert was that under cooked that it was still doughy in the middle! Almost every dish was inedible and the service was atrocious. The chocolate mousse had the texture of runny soup. When we complain, the staff just informed us what type of tool it comes out of. However, that had nothing to do as to why the mousse was so runny! These guys charged us an extra $80 for a group booking. Yes this is a beautiful place but where was the service? Left alone in a poorly ventilated room, we lost count how many times we got up to locate staff to take our orders. So my question is, what was the point of charging the extra amount?? What special service or treatment did we get besides a semi private room? A complete joke of a restaurant. ✌@foodiesguidetosydney
I had a lovely dinner with friends at Restaurant Eighty Eight. The setting here is truly beautiful, and there is option to sit outside on the verandah area or in the stunning dining room. Staff have warmth and are very attentive. Pumpkin Puree with the seared scallops was striking and velvety. I sadly found the macadamia crumb to overpower the ocean trout. Most impressive was the sago pudding with macerated berries. They use liquid nitrogen and the dish is served amidst a beautiful ‘fog’. This quieter corner of Pokolbin makes for a relaxed and peaceful setting great for a romantic dinner.
Beautiful food and location. Set in the grounds of the Peppertree estate this bistro is a peaceful lunch spot. I ordered a watermelon salad and my husband ordered sliders. We also followed it up with a chocolate mousse with popcorn and icecream. All food was well cooked and presented. Service was excellent and very well priced. We dined with my sister and cousins and they all loved their meals too – they catered well for my cousin who is gluten free also. This place will be the top of my list when we return to the Hunter valley.
