The Verandah Restaurant is a bit hidden away but it’s we’ll worth finding. Sitting upstairs at Calais Estate, they serve a range of tapas and sharing dishes – as well as some bigger plates too. It’s a long room with – you guessed it – a sweeping verandah outside that wrap around it. In summer or for lunch it would be magnificent. On a chilly night it’s best to grab an inside table, preferably close to the roaring fireplace they have going on cold nights.
Wonderful setting with delicious food and friendly service. The staff dealt with a huge table of our family complete with various allergies and dietary restrictions and we all had a beautiful feed! A few tapas options to share (and a nice bottle of local wine) and we were a very happy bunch. Will return!
Had a selection of 5 tapas for two, which was a bit too much food in the end. They were all delicious, especially the confit duck and soft shell crab. Service was friendly and dishes came out very quickly. View was beautiful, overlooking the vineyards.
Lovely service and interesting decor. The food was very filling and there was a good spread of options for two vegetarians, though the dishes were somewhat bland compared to other meals at nearby restaurants. While pleasant, there are probably better places to go for dinner in the area.
