Hunter Valley Wine Tour from Sydney with Zepher Tours (Wine, Cheese, Chocolate and Organic Vodka Tasting Tour with Lunch). You know all your hard work blogging pays off when you are invited to an exclusive day tour to the Hunter Valley region with Zepher Tours! We were treated to the finest wine, cheese and vodka that the Hunter has to offer, while also being allowed to soak up the views and drink as much as we wanted without the need to drive back, it was great! We also enjoyed a three course lunch at Villa du Pays Restaurant in Leogate Estate Winery.
Salt overload. Villa du Pays sits within the sprawling grounds of Leogate Winerie and as its name suggests, the venue conjures images of French aristocracy. Unfortunately, the food and service paled in comparison to the impressive setting. The kitchen took forever to get our orders out. The bread and amuse bouche were served at 9pm but the mains only reached our table at 9.50pm. It was nearly 11.00pm by the time we finished dinner . And we only ordered main courses; I can’t imagine what time dinner would’ve wrapped up if we’d gone for the full entree/main/dessert.We ordered the Chateaubriand, the roast duck and a side of mash. Three very different dishes with one common theme: SALT. The beef was a tad overdone and as a result, dry. We thought that the accompanying red wine jus would help but it was so salty, we just left it. There was also an option to add on a scallop, prawn and soft-shell crab for an additional $12 which we selected. Of these, only the brioche prawn was enjoyable with its crunchy exterior and juicy meat. The crab was excessively battered while the scallop, like the jus, suffered from a liberal dose of salt. My first taste of the roast duck made me hopeful that this dish would actually be seasoned perfectly. The duck leg however was again, overly seasoned and even permeated the meat so brushing off the salt crystals from the skin didn’t make any difference. No surprise then that the mash was also salty. We mentioned the excessive seasoning to our server but she didn’t indicate if she would be relaying the information to the kitchen. All in all, a memorable meal for all the wrong reasons.
Beautiful fine dining restaurant. Catered very well to my vegetarian ceoliac diet with a beautiful beetroot dish and an amazing pumpkin tasting plate. The Man had a tasting plate of pigeon for entree and a main of a steak and Morton bay bugs – both very well balanced. Definitely a restaurant for foodies – I will be testing some combinations when I get home – e.g puréed beetroot and rhubarb.
Amazing food and service!. We had heard great things about the steak here and we weren’t disappointed! Not only the steak but the staff and chef was amazing as well. There was a great atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. Our steak took longer to prepare than originally thought so the chef sent put complimentary sides – something that was moat welcome!Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a romantic evening and some great food!
