Went there on recommendations of friends, and ordered the Opera Cake alongwith a Cappuccino. Both were good. A bit expensive, but good overall.

This place is way too over rated. I have been here a few times and have tried at least 10 of their dessert. I think its quite fair to say that all the dessert are too rich and way too sweet!! You can tell the patissier is trying his best to put all the element into a cake but too overwhelming at least for me. They look better in the photos that they taste. All of my friends have the same comment. It is Just like any other patisserie. No where near my favourite patisseire Lorraine. I am a big fan of Reynold since master chef but Sorry I dont think I will be back anymore.

I was in Sydney for a work trip and Koi was near my hotel so it was on my itinerary to visit the KOI dessert bar which is at Spice Alley. Ive visited the KOI pop up shop at HWKR Melbourne a number of times and have enjoyed his desserts. I was expecting more variety at the Sydney dessert bar but to my disappointment there were less options to choose from for take away. With the limited options, i picked the Christmas log which will be a special for the month. The takeaway box/ bag was too big for one cake! I brought back to my hotel to have it for dessert. For $12, it tasted like a chocolate mousse, pretty but didnt taste spectacular.

The overall customer service experience needs to be improved and I feel the restaurant is taking advantage of the success on Masterchef as it doesn’t live up to it’s hype.

The wait staff were frequently dropping dishes and even dropped 3 dishes in our group as it was being served. Also, given it’s reputation as a fine-dining establishment, the wait staff also can’t explain the dishes being served (i.e there’s no story behind the dish and they just name the items you’re eating).

Australia doesn’t have a tipping culture but Koi force it upon you with a compulsory 10% service charge for large groups and even if they drop your dishes and provide inadequate service they wont waive it and change the amount. I questioned this and they said as they [Koi] dropped the dishes they had to get replacements quickly and took them which were destined for other tables so you still got the same dish at the end (so is that saying if I was served under-cooked chicken at another restaurant then that’s acceptable too as I was eventually served cooked chicken?).

Poor customer service seems to be a common theme reading other reviews. I would give it 1 star but the quality of the dishes make up for it but you may want to choose TAKEAWAY and NOT dine in.

The desserts here are a piece of art. Beautifully crafted and elegantly presented you feel you want to admire it first before youre eating it. Flavour is also amazing

We went to Sydney to celebrate our birthdays and made it a priority to visit Koi Dessert Bar. We ordered the 4 course dessert menu and the Idiot Sandwich and the Moss was definitely the highlight! We cant wait to go back and try Reynolds other creations!

Sitting outside the Koi Dessert Bar as I type this review. So hard to make up my mind looking at the amazing creations.

Ended up with a tiramisu creation that is sensational! I need to come back and work my way through them all
