Great service; attentive yet not overbearing. They have a small (4 items) Kids Menu which makes it much easier to have a family meal out. The Butter Chicken was extremely mild, almost like tomato soup, and I would have preferred it if there was an option to choose how hot the dish is (i.e. mild/medium/hot) as other restaurants have. The Prawn Jalfrezi was really good as was the Rice and the Naan Breads. The chicken in the Butter Chicken was dry and quite tough but I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt and I will try it again the next time I am there. It may have been a one off. $100 is about par for the course for two adults and two children in Coogee although there are cheaper options for Indian cuisine but they do not have options for kids.UPDATE: Gave it a second go with exactly the same result. A real disappointment, couldnt finish the dish – such a shame given how good this restaurant used to be at its previous location. Changed my rating to 1 star.

Amazing Indian restaurant. Mains were really tasty and you could tell they use good quality meat. Service was excellent and super friendly. Definately our new go to curry house.

Fantastic food and service. This is by far my favourite Indian in Sydney. The butter chicken is amazing! Prices are good and the staff are really nice.

Four of us dined on a Tuesday night in May with two Groupon vouchers between us. The vouchers cost $45 per couple and for that, each person got a soft drink, an entre, a main course and a dessert. Also included; a plate of rice and a basket of naan bread (plain or garlic) for the table. For entrees, we choose samosas, onion bhajee and chicken kebabs and for mains, we played it safe with a selection of mild beef, and chicken dishes. To end, what else but our fav gulab jamun and mango kulfi ice cream desserts? Portion sizes were generous and all the dishes were fresh and tasty, brimming with those aromatic and fragrant Indian herbs and spices that we love so much. Sauces were rich and creamy and the meat was well cooked and tender. And we were able to choose from pretty much everything on the menu, except for the fish and duck dishes which apparently incur an extra charge, although none of us cared for those anyway. Mr Shah, our friendly matre d (whom I assume is also the owner) was helpful and polite. Hes a professional operator who knows how to look after his customers. He made us feel welcome and made sure that everything ran smoothly. Our voucher was honoured with no nasty surprises, except that he insisted that we use it on a weeknight, even though, it is supposed to be valid any night of the week. Mr Shah got around that by insisting that he was fully booked for every Saturday night till the end of the decade! But I doubt whether this place ever gets full. I say this because when we arrived, it was completely empty. And as its a fairly large space with seating for maybe 100 or more guests, it felt a bit weird being the only diners. And it pretty much stayed that way for the first hour we were there, until another group of four diners pitched up, following by two more couples. So total complement on a Tues night in May was 12 people, plus a few take-away customers.Having such a paucity of other guests unfortunately made the place rather soulless and bleak, especially since the dcor is modish, with tiled floors and lots of glass and stone, no carpets or much else to give it warmth. Great for summer, but a bit cool in winter although as it was quite a balmy night, we were comfortable enough. Being Mr Shahs only guests did mean though that we had his full and undivided attention for most of the evening. So service was fast and efficient, with no long wait between courses.Being a quiet night also meant adequate parking spaces within easy walking distance of the restaurant. Thats no mean feat in Coogee, one of the most congested beachside suburbs in Sydney, although Cloves in Beach Street, about 100m up the road from the Beach Hotel and well away from the main eating and entertainment hub around Coogee Bay Rd and Arden Street. To summarise: Clove is a reliable choice for an Indian restaurant in the area. It serves tasty meals in adequate portions. Atmosphere is relaxed and casual but a tad dreary when its empty, although always easy to get a table without a booking. Service is generally polite and efficient. Toilets are clean, well provisioned and strategically located in the middle of the restaurant, although theyre lacking in privacy. Lighting is strong and the menu is clearly set out. Altogether, a professionally run eatery that deserves more support than it gets.

This Indian restaurant is located conveniently about a five minute walk from Coogee beach, good thing I went for a swim beforehand too as the dishes are very filling. The service was very polite and helpful with tables set up nicely and we were never ignored. Service 4/5. The entres were a little boring or bland but the mint and mango chutneys did go some way in improving them. 2/5The mains were much better with the sauces being quite flavoursome and rich, went perfectly with the delicious cheese naan. I made the mistake of ordering the dishes in moderate spice because the meats seemed to be marinated throughly with the spice as well as the sauce. Waiters offered yoghurt to ease the burn haha. But regardless of that the curries I would give a 4/5Mango lassi 4/5 the second best I have ever tastedWe came with a voucher so everything was about half the price of the dishes. But it would have been about $40pp if we had not. Al little on the pricey side but for the location and service id say it is well worth it for the next full paying occasion, maybe I’d skip the entres though!
