Visiting an old friend in Sawtell and she took us here. The ambiece was great. We sat on the street and although the place was heaving the waitress was outstanding. We had arancini and battered gherkins starters, (different but good). Seafood linguini was outstanding, my mate had an excellent sirloin cooked to order. Prices were reasonable all in all a great night out.
We have now eaten at The Spare Room twice. The first time it was quite underwhelming with food at best adequate and the service very casual. We went back last week and ordered a Hawaiian Pizza: quite easily the worst pizza I have had in a decade or more. The base was burnt, the outer edges were scorched to ash and we had a grand total of 17 pieces of pineapple on our pizza. I’m all for rustic cooking but this was horrendous. To their credit they offered free dessert, which we did not take up, they did remove $5 off the total invoice. Unfortunately we will not return and I think the bartender/barista may wish to adjust his too cool for school language and disposition.
