I attended Golden Crown with my family and was immeasurably underwhelmed the moment I walked in and sat down. I was asked to sit outside in outdoor seating during moderate winds. I don’t generally enjoy Chinese food, so my expectations were harsh, but my family wanted to have Chinese food so I humoured them. Had we known the quality of the food, we would not have even sat down. We ordered some common Chinese food sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper squid, green vegetables, some spring rolls and a bowl of chips. All of this was extremely underwhelming. The prawn crackers and spring rolls came quickly and they turned out passable. But everything else was the most atrocious combination of lethal ingredients I have ever had the displeasure of passing through my lips. It might as well have been hemlock, arsenic, formaldehyde, and cyanide because it was toxically potent. The smell of garlic was omnipresent in almost every dish, but, in the special sizzling garlic king prawn we ordered, the combination was crushed garlic and garlic salt, to the point of a ludicrous mess. The batter for the salt and pepper squid was so milky, I was sure I was eating yoghurt. Most of the food had carrot in it as well, a non traditional Chinese vegetable. All of the staff weren’t even Chinese, most were Malaysian or Thai, hence the carrot. When walking to the bathroom, I passed clutter and a hallway pantry, all of the food, just scattered around the hall (attached). Overall, it was the worst experience regarding Chinese food I have ever had the displeasure of engaging in.
Very underwhelming! Don’t pay for this tasteless place. Everything tasted the name – chowmein came out as crunchy noodles rather than what we were expecting. Extremely overpriced! Please stay away!!!
Worst place I’ve ever visited. Plates were dusty that we had to request them to change. Rice and curry had no flavour, not even salt and had some old cupboard kind of awful smell that I could not adjust and eat even a little bit despite of my extreme hunger.
The worst chowmein I’ve ever had for $20.90. Lucky they are licensed so I could wash the disgusting muck down with a sav. Don’t even think about it.
