First of all, we appreciated the friendly service from the wait staff, as appeared there was only one person attending tables, and the place was busy. However the food really let us down given seeing a fairly high score around Coffs Harbour area, we were expecting good quality food. The oysters were not fresh at all, looking really dull and saggy, need to scratch from the shells when we ate. Also we ordered two salmon mains, both had the fridge/frozen smell in the inner part of the salmon fillets.

Unfortunately they were short on staff while we were there, but when they finally brought out our order the food was amazing. Why would you have breakfast on Harbour Drive with all the traffic, when you can sit and watch the fish in the river while you eat at Shearwater.
Was asked if I had made a reservation for breakfast ?? Said nothing about that on the website ! And then was put outside near the car park there was a dog bowl next to our table even though there was plenty of tables inside not being used. Walked away without ordering very disappointed we drove 30mins to have breakfast as we had heard nice things then to be put outside like a dog when the whole point of the restaurant is the view
With a beautiful location & setting, this family owned restaurant delivers good food & friendly service. Share plates to start were delicious & stimulated the appetite. The seafood tasting plate had a good variety and the other with pork belly, grilled halloumi & ricotta croquettes were also delicious. Simple fish & chips had a crunchy coating & a generous serve. The steak was cooked perfectly as requested with a supet crispy prosciutto on top. Chicken was tender with a delicious sauce. A very enjoyable evening.
