  • The Dear Luncher

The Dear Luncher was in Newcastle for the smash and grab football Victory in the A-League Grand Final. Exiting the town there was a desperate need for caffeine and stomach filler. At random, Frankie’s was selected and the experience for the approximately 30 minutes The Dear Luncher and his entourage spent there was first rate. A superbly constructed breakfast roll, complete with BBQ sauce and a hash brown. Combined with a coffee for $12 – this was outstanding value. There was a subtle drip of yolk from the fried egg within, which of course means that it has been prepared properly. The coffee was absolutely spot on as well. High praise from a Melburnian. This capped off a wonderful weekend in a wonderful town. Newcastle folk were great hosts. Now if there was ever a reason to return, this would be the place for both coffee and breakfast. Bravo.

Came here for brunch with a couple of friends. Had the pumpkin salad and I keep wanting more. Coffee was alright.

I was really disappointed with this place. Slow service and by the time we got our food (45mins later) my poached egg was hard as a rock and the toast and other parts of my breakfast soggy and tasteless. Very disappointing as the place hardly seemed busy at all.

Bad service. We’ve been waiting for our food (2 salads and a soup) for over 45 mins. When asking the waitress about it, she mentioned something about the process. Not sure what that means. People who came in after us all got their food. All the waitress and chefs had to do what admit they forgot about our order. But instead we got a lame excuse. We ended up leaving before they bought the food out. They took the coffee we had off the bill. In the end all we wanted was better service and honestly which this place lacks. Very disappointing.
