Very nice place. We ordered spring lamb salad and satay chicken skewer. Satay chicken is very tasty. I love its backyard and staff are very friendly. Good coffee. There is WiFi in the cafe. Would love to come back again!

I’m always intrigued by the ratings scale and people’s perceptions. Goldberg’s falls into the category where parts of the experience were so good that the disparity between what wasn’t as good leaves a feeling of unmet expectation. Service was exceptional right down to one of the staff members commenting on someone’s weight loss and general excellence in engagement. The savoury mince I had, so far exceeded anything I have had previously it was in another realm. There were two unique items in the menu (savoury French toast & fruit n nut loaf) that showed the chef was creative and cared about the food he/she put forward. Whilst the decor is out dated it does actually suit. The coffee was where things started to pull back. It wasn’t bad but didn’t match up to the food. Please don’t leave this review with a bad taste in your mouth but the most disappointing thing was a $3 poached egg. I don’t know where cafes get off thinking that a $3 poached egg is reasonable. I can get a dozen for the same price. $9 in eggs contributed to a $52.90 bill which is $7 over me coming back.

I came here for late dinner with a group of friends and ended up waiting 40mins before we were served our food. Unfortunately for me, I had decided to try something different that was healthier and lighter than pasta, and therefore opted for one of their dinner specials – fish tagine with chickpea and cauliflower couscous and dukkah yogurt. The dish was one of the most peculiar mains I have ever tasted – it literally looked and tasted like they threw together whatever remnants/leftovers that they had onto a plate. The salad was cold (straight out of the fridge) whilst the fish was tough and dry in the hot, tomato-based fish stew. The combination of flavours did not work well together. The mix of hot and cold food on the plate, eaten on a warm summer night, made my stomach feel queasy within minutes. Normally, I would have continued eating, despite how bad the food may be because I don’t like wasting food, but I had to stop eating 1/3 of the way in (I triiiieeeddd). My friends seemed to fair better with their Sicilian and marinara pastas, which had the same tomato sauce base. Their serving sizes are large so you should come with a big stomach. The restaurant is surprisingly popular but could improve on their dim lighting and table arrangements, which make the space feel super cramped and warm. I’m pretty sure there is a safety issue, given the minimal aisle space between tables as well as the bar (only sufficient for one-way traffic along the bar if you want to walk to the outdoor courtyard out the back; no free space between tables when customers are seated).
