Like much of Sydney’s north shore Cremorne isn’t blessed with many pub options so the curiously named Minsky’s Hotel was the best we could find whilst waiting for our real destination for the evening to open. It’s an atmosphere-less barn of a venue only slightly improved aesthetically by an elegant grand piano situated near the entrance. A schooner and a bottle of ale came in at $17.40 so not exactly cheap either. thernbdiary.com
Poor service, poor food, poor layout, smoking room right next to child friendly dining area, smell of sewerage in dining area, TAB area tiny, Thursday security person yikes he was a morbid unfriendly African man not a good look in hospitality. Plenty of other pubs around with good service food and friendly and courteous staff.
Yeah the place is really not worth the hike…. To be honest the managerial staff are low rate. Beers on offer are not that broad and obviously the staff are not accommodative at all.
We’ve been eating at Minskys on and off for about two years. Meals are always a hit and miss. Have had to send dishes back on at least two occasions. Multiple steaks uneaten as my partner is too polite to let me request they redo the order. We continue to go though because it’s local, quick and easy. But tonight was officially the last night we’ll eat there. When the waiter came to take our plates I mentioned that my partners medium rare steak was well over done (my sisters steak, supposed to be medium but was a rare medium rare). I was totally polite and said it with a smile. We paid nearly $30 for something he couldn’t eat. The waiter told the chef and as we were sitting in a booth the chef could see us and us him, he ever so kindly death stared us on the way out. Total professional. On the plus, salt & pepper squid and the lamb starter are pretty good.
Changed a lot since the renovation. The layout is more sensible, vibe is much warmer, and the food is much nicer. Service was also very friendly. Will be back.
Pleasantly surprised. We walked in to a pretty funky atmosphere but were concerned by the reviews on this site. We ordered 2 double ciroc vodkas and were hit $48 which I thought was a bit steep. Nonetheless we considered the menu and ordered a garlic bread, wings and two steaks. The garlic bread and wings couldn’t be faulted and the wings were some of the best I’ve had. The rump steaks were cooked almost perfectly (maybe slightly rare) but quite nice cuts. I ordered just chips instead of chips and salad expecting to get some chips instead but this was not the case. They just made the same meal but removed my salad. All in all the service from the girl at the bar was great and the food was nice. Would rate 7/10. Definitely worth eating
