Last-minute anniversary dinner booking. Flawless. Attentive and friendly waitstaff, delicious food, a large range of cocktails, lovely ambience.
1. Didn’t have our booking on record, so had to wait for table and we’re seated outside. 2. Waited about another 30 mins before a waiter even approach us. We just wanted to order a drink. I think this waiter forgot our order.3. About 10mins later, another waiter came. We ask to move inside, as it was windy outside and again ordered our drink. We moved inside, but still know drink. 4. Waited another 20mins before another waiter approach. Told him we have waited an hour and still don’t even have a drink.5. 20 mins later. Ask again. Eventually got our drink. (But, we were supposed to get a complementary drink on arrival. I kept reminding the waiter that we had not received this. It was about 2 hours in before we received this.6. It was about 1.5 hours before we received our entree. Pitiful serving.7. Waited about another 40 mins before the waiter came to tell us they run out of what we ordered for main. 8. Mains were very small serving. 9. Desert was pathetically small and its presentation was unappetising.10. This was a set menu (especially for Valentine’s), so with the limited menu one would expect the service to run smoothly and quickly, but it was quite opposite.11. Very expensive, considered serving size and quality of food.
Yes the decor is very elegant but after joining friends whod eaten here several times there wasnt much to rave about. We selected the Gueridon Flambeed menu which your chef will cook & flamb dishes from a trolley gave the impression it was at table. Not much room for that though. Not how it was served. Entree was very meagre , scallops with grapefruit pieces and sauce. No sign of Jerusalem artichoke. Steak Diane which traditionally has garlic was bland. Few little squares of potato. Crepe with cherries and ice cream was served with banana. Fairly good selection of wines and cocktails. We sat in the front section which was very cold. Later in the evening they closed the front door but the wind was blowing in from the eastern side and we were very uncomfortable. Noisy too and hard to hear each other. Probably a good restaurant for functions.
I had my 30th Birthday and hired out the cocktail bar area and have also been for dinner. The staff are fabulous, Julian was exceptional to deal with and helped organise my event with impeccable attention to detail. I would definitely recommend 1908 for any type of event, wedding or a night out with the girls. The food is delicious with a unique menu. The medley mix of oysters were a stand out especially the pancetta crumble and the cocktails are even better. The cocktails are definitely 100% the best in the shire. I highly recommend the lemon sorbet and the fairy floss cocktail ( I forget the names). We will definitely be back. I am very happy we have another high calibre restaurant in the area.
What a feed! Service, taste and fit out on point. Damn (Daniel) those arancini balls were cracka!! Lovely lady at the front! Nick, (ah McCain) you’ve done it again! Coming back soon!
Good experience, nice food, great environment. Cocktails are awesome, me and my family had couple drinks – pink one topped with fairy floss is wonderful ~ love that
I had visited this restaurant in its previous incarnation as The Old Library so I was interested to see how it was now.Located on Surf Road, the restaurant is airy with lots of glass to let in the light, it is very contemporary and pleasant. Most seats indoors, there are some informal high top seats outside too. Service was very friendly and the single server was handling the breakfast crowd with ease as not too busy. The waffles we light and fluffy. There was a nice crunch to them and had one with ice cream and the other one with strawberries. The Banana Roti was served with peanut butter and condensed milk. It was an interesting concept and fairly well executed. The peanut butter and banana combination was delicious. The Shakshuka Baked Eggs had a slight spiciness to it but was lovely and the runny eggs in the sauce was great. The bread soaked up all the sauces. The Huevos Rancheros Baked Eggs were not so successful. It was a bit too oily with the mince and the pork belly in it. It was a bit unbalanced as also had avocado in it so fatty in taste. The tostadas needed to be drained more too. Overall most dishes were great bar the one exception.
