A student’s dream. Nestled inbetween Sydney Uni and Newtown, this pub offers some of the most competitive prices you will find in Sydney. I ordered the $10 steak done medium rare and it was an absolute bargain. Not the greatest steak in the world but the pepper sauce is delicious and free chips and salad is amazing. Jugs of tap beer for $12 and plenty of tvs showing sport make this the perfect spot to relax after uni and grab a bite or to have a few drinks to get your night started.
Across the road from Carriageworks, The Royal is your typical Sydney pub of yesteryear. No fancy refurbishment here.Attended a party in the upstairs function room, a great space with plenty of natural light and private bar and pool room. There was a variety of party fare including dips and crudits, sausage rolls, meat pies, samosas, spring rolls and fruit platters.
Veggie lovers !!. Lovely vegetarian options , roast mushroom sandwich is delicious as is the grilled haloumi salad . big portions and everything is reasonably priced..great atmosphere each and every time
Amazing thick $9 steaks!!. Best pub steaks ever. $9 includes sauce (diana, pepper, mushroom..) and choice of 2 sides (chips, mash, veg). All days a week, lunch or dinner and no need to buy a drink. I always get diane sauce and its fantastic. Steak is tender and not too chewy, big enough that I often don’t finish it. Much better than Landsdown steak (thin and must buy a drink) on cnr of City Rd and Parramatta Rd. Seating is nothing fancy but at least there’s a dining area separated from the sports viewing/drinks area, with windows and doors looking out onto the street.

Great Food great prices. I have ate at the Royal a number of times and always find the food to be of high quality at a very reasonable price. The Steak is just $9 and is great quality. I will definatly be going back
Great value for money!. $9 can’t buy much these days but at The Royal it will get you a steak, gravy and 2 sides.As for the pub, it’s got a great atmosphere. A mix of locals, uni students and office workers.Another bonus- any jug of beer for just $9!
