The Flame lounge & dining at the Dee Why RSL club is probably the nicest RSL Ive been to. Its the fancier restaurant in the RSL and prices are decent for what you order. Service was pretty good as they were all friendly and well-mannered. However, we were asked 3-4 times by different staff if we wanted any drinks and we politely declined each time but we felt pushed to purchase drinks. Ordered:Kingfish carpaccio-The Kingfish itself was fresh and lovely but we didnt quite like the sauce that went with it. I usually like my sauce to have a bit more citrus as thats what a carpaccio should have but this one had more soy sauce in it.Tasmanian salmon with soba noodle salad -Cooked perfectly with the salmon being soft and flaking away as you cut your fork into it. The soba salad was delicious as it was light and citrusy, would love to recreate the soba salad at home sometime. Sirloin steak with dianne sauce (creamy mushroom sauce), chips and snow peas.-The steak was tender and delicious but not the best steak Ive had. Still delicious though with the chips and it was plated quite nicely. janicexrose.wordpress.com
Flame Lounge & Dining at the Dee Why RSL Club is a popular steak restaurant in the Northern Beaches. But thats not all they specialise in, the seafood dishes as wells as their ribs are also on point.
As Flame seems to be quite busy on the weekends, we chose to come 1 mid week for an early dinner. Place was half full so we were seated immediately. We ordered the barra/scampi, beef cheek, ‘posh’ fish n chips, salt n pepper calamari and finally the cheese for desert. The fish n chips was surprisingly ‘posh’, one of the best I have tasted. There was just enough batter (which was deliciously crunchy and had enough puff in them), blends well with the chip. From memory, it is neck to neck with the fish and chips @Four Seasons hotel. Beef cheek was succulent tender yet not dry. The 3 sauces provides enough variety in each bite. Calamari was ok. I’d steer clear of the barra/scampi. Scampi was limp dry overcooked, not fresh at all. Barra was quite tasteless. We’d return to try the fajitas n the ribs in the future. Stay tuned
We stopped here yesterday 25/1 for lunch, first time to the club. The Flame bistro was appalling!!! Frozen burnt to a crisp whiting fillets, heart shaped chicken schnitzel and the list goes on. All heavily cooked & sitting in the display like a bad take away shop. Don’t go!
