I love this place! You would think since it is a partly bar, their food wouldn’t be that good! But let me tell you it is pretty damn good. During afternoon, once or twice I had a takeaway coffee too and turned out not bad either! Come here for drinks, food and some fun night or if during the day, grab their coffee:)

Worst steak ever, tough and tiny. When we complained we were told we order the wrong steak….hello.No one asked what was wrong, why I left the whole thing on the wood board, just happy to take it away and ask if we wanted another drink. No point going on!!!

Super funky spot right in the heart of double bay. Enjoyed their food very much; I was warned of the portion of my meal, and unfortunately failed to meet the challenge (it made a fantastic lunch the next day). The decor is cute, with cosy tables and a beautiful outdoor section also. Perfect for a more intimate date night!

This must be where everyone who used to go to Ivy now frequents. It’s just as chic, pretentious and stylish with a fun bar area. I really enjoyed the atmosphere but be warned it’s quite loud so don’t expect to be able to have an intimate conversation with anyone. The restaurant section in the front is far more subdued and the staff were rather lovely. Pizza was good, pasta was good, nothing to write home about but no complaints either and prices reasonable (in general but even more so for Double Bay). A 2% surcharge for any type of card payment however (eftpos included) is all kinds of bullsssht. In what world to people carry cash these days?

FOOD TYPEModern AustralianFOOD QUALITYThe wife and I had a disappointing experience dining here on the last night of summer. The food was overpriced and ordinary, helpings were small and I hate the way that, despite paying top dollar, some dishes (like my burger and the salad), are brought out on tin plates of the type youll probably remember from the army or scout camp. We started with two zucchini and fontina croquettes at $4 a pop. That was basically one mouthful of food each. For my main course, I ordered the cheeseburger with chips, at a hefty $24, and my wife ordered the scotch fillet with mustard and horseradish ($25). Not sure why mustard and horseradish needs to be highlighted as part of the dish, most places will just bring this out as a matter of course. My burger with chips was pleasant enough and a decent size, but nothing to write home about and you could get the same thing at another burger joint for half the price. My wife enjoyed her steak though, it was finely cut into thin slices and well cooked just the way she likes. Not much came with it, apart from a bit of green leaf salad. To complement the meat dishes, we also ordered an Asian salad ($10). It was pretty tiny with a few pieces of stringy bok choy which I nearly choked on. There are only two dessert choices none of which appealed, so we settled for cappuccinos which in this overpriced city, now sell for $4 (and thats a small!). Probably the highlight for me was the schmiddy of icy-cold, refreshing Heineken in a tall glass ($10). My wife had two glasses of sparkling wine at $11 a glass.ATMOSPHEREI had been expecting a busy and rather energetic place, based on what previous reviewers had said, but in reality we found it rather dreary and depressing. Perhaps because it was a weeknight, but the front section inside, where we sat, was pretty much empty and consequently, despite the stylish and modern decor, it was quite soulless with us being virtually the only diners in a space that could probably hold about 60 people. There are tables on the pavement outside, and we did notice as we left, that those tables were mostly occupied. It was a warm late summer eve, perhaps we should have sat there instead. Theres also a courtyard and another dining section at the back, but those were also empty and at some stage in the evening they were closed and the lights turned off.SERVICEService was friendly and polite, if a tad slow, which was surprising, given the paucity of other diners inside. Our young table waitress seemed a bit inexperienced and hesitant, and she wasnt able to give us much information about the various dishes, having to refer each time to the maitre d.COMFORTChairs are firm, but the table is pretty small and we struggled to fit all the dishes. The temp inside was just right, not too hot or cold, but then it was a mild late summers eve. I imagine, that this could be a cold venue in winter, unless they get some heaters going, as its all pretty much open air and open plan, with lots of wood, glass and stone.MENUThe menu is small but fairly simple to follow and clearly laid out.TOILETSToilets are at the back, with separate male and female ones. There are adequate cubicles (more than enough given the small turnout) and theyve been kept reasonably clean and well provisioned, except I did notice that the lock on one male toilet was broken. Some signage from within the restaurant would also help.ACOUSTICSAs we were virtually the only diners in our section, we had no trouble conversing, but without a sound absorber in sight, Im sure this would be a noisy venue if it ever got full.COSTEven with a $20 Dimmi rewards voucher, we still ended up paying a hefty $89 for two tiny croquettes, two mains, a small salad, two glasses of wine, a beer and two cappuccinos. Sorry guys, but this does not represent good value for money by any stretch of the imagination. The 2% surcharge for using a cc is unnecessary and few other places do it.BOOKINGNot necessary for weeknights.PARKING/ACCESSParking in Double Bay is a breeze. Most restrictions end at 6.00pm and we were easily able to find a spot in Cooper Street, a pleasant 10-minute stroll from our restaurant.SUMMARYOverall, we had a disappointing and expensive night. The food was average, and helpings were small. It being so empty, it lacked atmosphere. Service was polite but inefficient. This is basically an overpriced pub cum burger joint, that we wont be rushing back to.MEMOI did notice on closer examination of their website that they have specials on Wednesday nights ($12 steaks) and Thursday nights ($10 burgers), and happy hour between 3-6pm Tues to Fridays, so that may be worth taking a look at.

Atrocious & arrogant service finished with a generous hint of disdain. Avoid this place. Came for a casual lunch at this near empty venue and was ignored. Wanted to order and was ignored again. I had to walk right up to the counter and force myself to place an order in this near empty restaurant. To be honest, I get better service at a Vietnamese Pho Restaurant in Cabramatta than this place. Thanks to the kitchen staff, the quality of food was great. But totally ruined by the arrogant and lazy wait staff. They even had the audacity to ask for a tip. Here’s a tip: Serve your customers! Places like this don’t deserve to be in business.
