Opened recently, the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney’s boutique village of Double Bay is upmarket, chic, and sophisticated. Mixing old world elegance and charm with a contemporary touch, the InterContinental pays homage to the former Ritz Carlton, a historical icon built in 1991, by retaining its rich marble interiors. The entrance to the venue is unique. One step off the street feels as if one has entered a warm and handsome privately owned mansion, even though the hotel holds 140 rooms. Within the space, local art acknowledges the community and provides some sense of familiarity. View of the courtyard from above The strong ties between community and the location appear again and again throughout the Hotel – from the top of the building where a feature rooftop pool and bar look out onto the bay view of Double Bay, to the locally sourced produce in the kitchens. The event was hosted by Decante This and Joachim Heger of Weingut Dr Heger, with the menu designed by the talented Julien Pouteau, Executive Chef of the Stockroom. It was hard to figure out if the ‘wein’ complemented the food or vice versa. Either way, the pairing was on point. Guests were welcomed with canapés and a 2011 sparkling KarriBindi Chardonay Pinot.
