Since I usually don’t go to classy hotels for afternoon tea, this place was an eye-opener. The lounge area was relatively quiet, mainly filled with middle-aged Westerners, and the section we ended up sitting at was filled with elegant French-style furniture that looked straight out of the 1800’s and painted in fake gold paint (rather comfy chairs). Various people in the group ordered coffees/tea (~$5 each) and we shared two bowls of fries ($8 each), served with truffle mayo. The bowls of fries weren’t that big but were hot and crispy. Mayo was good with lots of truffle shavings.
Although high tea isn’t my first choice, we had a very nice brunch.I say that I am not a fan of it because I think that the price doesn’t match the quantity of food you get. However, InterContinental was good and I really enjoy the relaxed ambience and the cute deco style.Savoury: absolutely good. Cucumber sandwich, salmon brioche, prosciutto and cheese bruschetta were all delicious but, of course, very small servings and everything was finished in no time.Desserts and sweets: very sweet and big servings. Scones with jam and cream, chocolate tarts, raspberry macarons, coconut marshmallows, creme brle and lemon cupcakes… Some of these were very tasty (the cupcakes) and others were too sweet, causing a sickening taste in our mouthes. This led to most of our desserts being left on the platter, so we asked for a box and decided to take them home because it would have been a massive waste. Favourites: Cucumber sandwiches and scones, one of the best I’ve had. After all, the meal wasn’t too bad but consisted of mostly desserts so I would only recommend it to people with a sweet tooth.
Went to the Stillery for high tea over the weekend and we all really enjoyed it. The sandwiches were delicious – especially the cucumber on brown bread. The scones were light and fluffy and all of the sweets were delicious in different ways. The service was a bit up and down. It was mostly good but there were times when it was hard to track someone down. The tea selection was not so big and they had some unique flavours like Moroccan mint. Unfortunately it wasn’t that nice and I would have preferred normal peppermint tea but overall we had a great day and I would definitely go back
They made our New Years Eve experience fantastic and catered for our dietary needs, modifying the set menu. Could tell really made the effort. Service was awesome and watching the fireworks from the rooftop pool outstanding. Highly recommended for any special occasion.
I love this place! High ceilings, Excellent gin Cocktails, great food. It’s really nice and ambient, quiet and good for meetings too. Intercom interiors are beautiful- Im a huge marble fan so it’s nice to be inside the hotel to appreciate it.
I’d be the first to admit that high tea isn’t my first choice for a meal. It’s very pretty and ladylike, but the amount of food served contrasted with the amount paid never fully balances out in my opinion – so take this review with a grain of salt. I’m biased and I know it.Our group of ladies had high tea here, one lovely Sunday afternoon, and we were all wowed at the decor of both the hotel and Stillery itself – the Intercontinental is undeniably gorgeous and oozes class and luxury. Our high tea comes in two courses: the first is a plate of three different savoury bites, the second is a two-tiered production of desserts and sweets. We all absolutely loved the savouries: cucumber sandwich slivers, salmon and cream cheese on brioche and mini prosciutto open sandwiches, but these were sadly all over far too quickly in (literally) three bites. The desserts were next, and while they were good, they were also very sweet. Our desserts ranged from scones with jam, nutella and cream, waffles, chocolate tarts, cream-stuffed raspberry macarons, creme brulee and ginger biscuits, lemon curd cupcakes. A clear favourite were the coconut marshmallows – ridiculously soft, cloud-like marshmallow cubes covered in desiccated coconut flakes. However, not one of us could finish all of our desserts (or even come close). This was not attributed to us being too full, but due to the sheer sweetness of what we managed to consume hitting us like a truck, giving the majority of us sugar headaches and causing a lingering sickeningly sweet taste in our mouths for the rest of the day. There were undeniably hiccups with the service as well – the waitstaff had no idea that we had booked with a Spring special despite numerous reminders, and kept forgetting tea and drink orders too. Our group had also brought our own a special-occasion cake as well, which seemingly caused the staff extra confusion as they also required multiple reminders on the cutting and bringing out of the cake. All in all, it’s the perfect place for you if you’re happy to eat a meal consisting of just desserts and if you don’t mind undeniably bumpy service. For the amount that we paid, I definitely expected more and won’t be returning in a hurry.
Having just stayed in the hotel a few days I entertained and was entertained in this quite elegant space. Several times. On The first evening the experience was a reasonably Pleasant one and we had a couple of tapas dishes from the menu with our drinks. Service OK. However the other times, e.g. Lunch on Sarurday was embarrassing. Terribly inattentive service. They forgot my lunch initially… after waiting an eternity… we couldn’t attract anyone to top up drinks, etc. very poor. We were also disappointed the tapas dishes on the menu were unavailable until after 3pmSat pm drinks with a local art dealer OK, but no nibbles offered with drinks and a very ordinary little dish of nuts arrived for three of us. Perhaps the specialty is cocktails – a true bar experience? As a guest I found it disappointing.
