What we ordered:- lamb with parsley crumb and mushrooms: so tasty! The meat was very soft and the flavours delicious. My favourite main meal so far- truffled egg: I was expecting a scotch egg but this is just like a small portion of scrambled egg with truffle on it. It was nice but wouldn’t order again- salmon gravlax: flavours too mild- snails: my dad says they are one of the best but I wasn’t game to try!- duck: very tasty but a lot of meat, the leg is much nicer than the duck breast- pork: not the best choice- crepe Suzette: my favourite dessert, so yummy! Portions are small though so don’t share ;)- chocolate fondant: nice but not amazing

Cute French bistro style, bit on the pricey side but food was delicious.. Oysters lovely and fresh, seafood all great. Desert also a treat. Lovely music and romantic setting. Only negative I have is the waiter’s very poor English made ordering a bit difficult!

Ravioli of Scallop or Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom Cognac Sauce is a hard act to top. Everything you expect from a French restaurant – cosy, warm, welcoming staff, a rich dining experience.

Nice Cosy French Restaurant. We came here on a Saturday night for dinner.Parking was nice and convenient and was able to find a spot just round the corner from Lyon’s RoadTruffled egg for starter was very nice, then for the main had the pork belly which was good and my partner had the barramundi, which was OK and had really nice juice. For dessert we had the chocolate fondant which was OK but portion a bit on the small size.Corkage at the restaurant was $3.50 and quite reasonable. Possibly, only minor criticism was the size of the tables which were very small.Overall though enjoyable meal and will be back.

A pleasant night out. We walked past Vatel one day never noticing it before despite living in drummoyne for 2 years, We thought we would give it a go- and it was fantastic! By 7pm the restaurant was nearly full on a Thursday night. The waitresses were French girls, lovely service. We ate the Brasserie menu, which is very good value for three courses. The beef cheeks with paris mash especially were our favourite dish, so soft and tender. Will definitely recommend this for family.

Food mediocre, cold service. Dinner last night was a disappointment. The standard of food and service has dropped significantly since we last dined at Vatel. Our party chose to spend our Saturday evening meal at this venue on my recommendation and after travelling a fair distance my expectations were dissatisfied. Our biggest issue is with the head waiter and some aspects of the food. The head waiter lacks warmth and professionalism. We were seated as the only patrons in the restaurant at the time of our arrival yet the head waiter soon approached our table in a manner very much like a demand to take our order while we getting settled and discussing the menu. We were predominantly service by another young, nice and attentive waiter throughout our meal yet when it was time for payment the head waiter appeared, stood at our table and waited while we gathered up our notes. When the bill folder was handed to him, he proceeded to open it at our table and count the money. I was surprised to witness this ‘service’ from a ‘fine-dining’ establishment. To top it off, he miscounted the amount thinking we had left a $20 tip (we had actually left a smaller tip) and it was at this point that he became warm, smiled and finally showed concern for our meal and experience by asking whether we enjoyed it and to have a lovely evening. I had an awful taste in my mouth by that time; I believe it to be bile. The food was a bit of a mixed affair. While some things were well executed, other dishes failed to impress. The scallop ravioli was delicate but my tasteless beef tenderloin was at the same time overdone and in other sections bleeding. The burgundy snails were nicely presented but the crabmeat in the blue-swimmer spaghettini lacked sweetness and tasted almost canned as it was dry and watery. The tart for dessert was delicious but the crepe was burnt and some parts almost black. It almost appears that the chef is trying to stick to a five ingredient per dish agenda. There are many other restaurants in Sydney that provide delicious French cuisine at a better price and with more warmth than at Vatel.
