Arrived just before 9am and the display cases were still being filled. Kids enjoyed bacon and egg rolls (1 on gf bread made to order). Tried a plain meat pie. Nice flavour and case pastry was light, crisp but not too dry. Personal preference is for flaky pastry as a topper on a pie so a little disappointed but still tasty overall. Coffee was hot and enjoyable.
I thought it was about time I did some local food reviews so I decided to start at Village Bakery Cafe. This is the home of Dubbo’s best pie, and actually the home of Australia’s best at times. It’s won a lot of awards for their pies and in my opinion they are definitely worthy winners. Their pies have thick, tasty pastry with great filling. This time I tried the steak, bacon and cheese pie. In the past I have had the plain steak pie and highly recommend that so this time thought I’d try something different.
A cosy bakery with lots of bake selections – sandwiches, wraps, pies, breads, cookies and cakes. Had a potato cheese and bacon beef pie which tasted pretty average.
