Rosa Cienfuegos has been doing food at trucks and markets (notably at the Marrickville markets), serving many things that you don’t see often in Australia, like tamales, and now has a shop in Dulwich Hill. It’s a shop rather than a restaurant but you can buy frozen tamales and a range of hard-to-find Mexican ingredients (including tortillas from La Tortilleria in Melbourne, which are much better than supermarket ones). I like their food concepts, especially the tasty tamales, but I still haven’t found the ultra-rich flavours that I liked in Mexico. Plus the prices are crazy – $18 for a pack of two tamales or a modest quesadilla for $10. Rosa herself runs almost everything at the shop or markets while the rest of the staff seem to just stand around and forget everything.
