We went on a Saturday night and found ourselves in a relaxed yet sophisticated environment there was charcuterie hanging behind the delicatessen window over an assortment of cheeses on display, and piles of round bentwood cheese boxes stacked on shelves high above the heads of the friendly staff. There was a small space in the back of the dining area showcasing various smallgoods like tea, oil, bread, and a collection or condiments, mimicking the true nature of a French picerie. We ordered a three cheese platter, LAustralien with a suggested sauvignon Blanc and ended up with a slightly altered version with from the original menu as produce was low. The result was just as sublime and matched entirely with our wine. There was a goat blue from the Adelaide region called Venus blue, a soft washed-rind named The Fermier from Victoria (my personal favourite), and third; the Jensen Red washed rind. The platter came with sliced fig, sweet chutney, bread and crackers. We also ordered the three dip plate with tzatziki, salmon dip, and baba ganoush served with water crackers. Though the bread and water crackers were not particularly capturing, the quality of the cheese was superb and coupled with the wine it didnt matter too much about how the cheese was consumed, but the fact that it was tasted well with the simplicity of the bread and crackers. Perhaps having grissini or something similar with the dip platter may have injected some variety, but overall a simple and fulfilling experience, enhanced by friendly staff.
