Golden Wheel is an Eastwood institution. Located next to the fire station on the quieter side of Rowe Street, the restaurant has been there for 43 years! My friends and I decided to order takeaway after growing up in the local area. Long time admirers, first time diners.Food: We ordered all the Australian Chinese classics – Honey Chicken, Mongolian Lamb, Sweet and Sour Pork and a Seafood Combination. My favourite was the Mongolian Lamb. The deep fried dishes (honey chicken and sweet sour pork) were all soggy from being in closed takeaway boxes, but the flavour was there. The seafood dish was fine, it was all frozen seafood so the seafood had no taste, but that’s what you get for a $20 dish.Overall, I thought the servings were a little small – they were in thin rectangle containers.Service: The lady was very nice and cheerful, letting us know how much longer till our food would be ready.Ambiance: From the outside, the window tinting makes the interior look very dark and dim, but once you step inside there are lights on everywhere. There is a bit of clutter behind the bar and around the entrance, but it gives the restaurant a very homely feel and you can feel the neighbourhood pride as the owners have stuck up local news articles on the walls. They also had a retro cash register (un-used) but to our surprise they also had the old school carbon copy credit card machines.A friendly restaurant that serves classic dishes in a unique environment in Eastwood. I would recommend locals to definitely give it a go.
