Pho broth too sweet, too fatty, not enough depth, meaning not enough taste. No special pho offered. No water offered so I had to buy a bottle. My ordering was interrupted by the cashier taking someone else’s order, a regular. I felt very slighted. Next to me was a slurping burping man, but that’s a good sign, right?
Don’t really understand the high ratings for this place, it’s pricey for street food pho/bunh mi/bun, $13 for my beef Pho, but taste wise it’s pretty middle of the road. Not that it’s bad, but there’s better & cheaper Pho around within walking distance. The service was friendly, and it was pleasant to sit outside to eat on the street on a nice sunny day.
Do not order the spring rolls. I’ve just ordered some that have clearly been sitting out well over expiry date. They are chewy and completely inedible. A complete waste of money. On the other hand, the Chicken Pho wasn’t too bad, but the whole experience has been soured. I love me some spring rolls and these were the worst I’ve ever encountered.
I had a mixed experience at Great Aunty’s. The lemongrass chicken bun ($13) was lacking so much flavour in comparison to my expectations and was seemingly lacklustre and bland. The portion size was minimal aside from the noodles and overall seemed a bit basic. On the other hand, I ordered the Coconut Sinh To frappe ($8) and it was spectacular – creamy, yet not too heavy, and the bitter and tangy lime addictive and really cut through the coconut. Aunty’s is essentially a takeaway joint with some mixed outdoor and indoor seating. Opt for outdoors as inside feels a little grimey. crumbs-au.com
Worst Vietnamese food ever. $10 banh mi! Couldn’t even finish it, hipster infused Viet food, not for the traditional Viet food lover. The pho is so so too. Never will eat again.
All your fave Vietnamese dishes are here! Rice paper rolls, pho, vermicelli bowls and pork rolls. There aren’t a great deal of seats, as I think this outlet is more of a takeaway place. The food is fresh and light. Great option if you want to pick up some great Vietnamese food. threespoonsfullblog.wordpress.com
I had a fantastic pork banh mi at Great Aunty Three last week and fell in love with this cute little corner store. I need to go back here for noodles and pho because what they did with the roll was delish, that crackling was delish and whatever the OMG sauce is I needs it again. Such a welcoming venue with a bunch of nice ladies all making food. When I asked for mild chilli I think they all laughed at me while they stuffed a million chillies on the roll haha. And the venue itself, while small, is very cool. Can’t wait to eat here again :). spooningaustralia.com
