Nice venue and the staffs weren’t bad. Food was rather average though. We had pecking duck, some dumplings, steamed fish they were all quite average… The restaurant is kinda openair and it might be above a smoking room or something cause we could smell cigarette
What a change – this place has gone from run of the mill to top drawer. The kitchen has turned Hong Kong street food with a sharing mentality that includes vegetarian options and enough milder stuff for even the kids to enjoy themselves (ours loved the dumplings). Pair that with a choice selection of blues music and a great drinks list that gives attention to local talent (e.g. Willie the Boatman brewery) then top it off with some genuine LOLs from the fortune cookies, and Merivale have scored big time with this refurb. Put it on your list for sure.
Gone all (good) Thai – bargain. The bloke here’s been around Newtown for years with various establishments often in pubs. Seems to me this pub isn’t on the trend wheel. Best laksa I have eaten for two years. Great balance with that all important depth of flavour – I call it the length of the broth. $12 – I’d expect to pay $18 for that. My colleague was equally immersed in his broth based dish so I didn’t bother to ask.Super dooper and a bargain to boot.
Good sports pub, bad food. This is a cool spot to sit around and watch a few sports games with a few beers. There are always plenty of places to sit and the service is quick and easy. The food really lets the place down. We’ve eaten here about 5 times and each time it seems to be worse than the last. The last time we were there we had the steak sandwich which was almost inedible because it was so chewy. Stick to the beer and chips.
