Everything was great until the food arrived. The waitress was friendly, she brought a bucket of chalk to draw on the paper table cloth, there were nice fairy lights outside and candles on the table. The food itself was OK. The margherita was quite bland – I couldn’t taste the garlic although it was listed on the ingredients. The ham on the Hawaiian was spam – I guess that’s traditional but I’m not used to it. But that’s OK, it’s an old-school pizza place, not too expensive, and I wasn’t expecting anything fancy. The real problem came when it was time to pay. Despite having stickers in the window saying they accepted Visa etc, they said the machine wasn’t working properly. I really wish they’d told me when we first sat down. Major pain the neck! In any case, I only had $27 cash for a $34 bill. I asked if I could owe them $7, being local, but they said no. They wanted me to go across the road to the ATM, which I wasn’t keen to do with two young children in tow. I think they expected me to leave the kids in the restaurant as collateral or something because when I packed up the table and told the kids that we had to go to the ATM together, they suddenly said the machine was working. But then on a $34 bill, they said there was a $1 surcharge to pay by card. That’s probably against the law as merchants can only charge surcharges that reflect the true cost. But in any case it’s ridiculous. It’s one thing if someone wants to pay $5 by card, but $34 is a reasonable transaction.Small business owners should realise that handling cash also has a cost – you pay for security, you pay for insurance, you pay for staff to stand in line at the bank.
Have been here countless times and have to say, it’s almost always a great dine in experience. The pizzas are great here but last night I went for pasta and it was also excellent. The ambiance was fantastic with a nice red light on the table. Girlfriend was very impressed with the romance of it
Newtown is renowned for its food scene and lets just say how remarkable it is! Finding free street parking after 6pm though is a freaking nightmare so save the stress and come early if you can. With that aside, I had a gig to attend to at the Enmore Theatre on Thursday night. My sister, her friend and I wanted to eat dinner beforehand and we stumbled upon this restaurant. It’s a quaint little restaurant, selling everything from pizzas, pastas and more! Here’s what we ordered:- Garlic Bread: cooked fresh and was so yummy! Melt-in-your mouth and not too overpowering with the garlic.- Mushroom Pizza: tomato-based with generous amounts of mushroom with an abundance of garlic and oregano flavours. Cheesy, nice and breezy. Very filling and enjoyable to eat.Service was quite good as the wait staff were very approachable and gave us the time we needed to choose what food to eat. However, food took a while to come out and the some of the tables were awkwardly placed. The EFTPOS machine was down too on the night that we came. Portion sizes were quite good and the prices weren’t too bad either. Great pre-gig food – you can do no wrong with pizza and garlic bread here!
Ok pizza, the guy who makes the pizza ‘s is a stress head, to ask for extra garlic or have thePizza cooked more and he looks at you like your aPest. Maybe they should have more than just one guy making thePizzas .
2 hours for a pizza (1 hour late)…and still waiting. I can’t comment on the quality of the food because after 2 hours we are still waiting on our pizzas to arrive. Both Torino phone numbers have been busy (or off the hook) for the past hour so we can’t even find out what is happening. Not good enough guys!!
Orignal and the best. Pizza arrived within 20 minutes and I’m a 5 minute drive away. Piping hot and fresh. Best ingredients. Torino’s has been there forever because of its consistency and quality. Been a fan for a long time. I live right around the corner from Bambino Torino but stick to the original and the best.
Torinos. Had a mushroom pizza from here last night, it was fantastic. Absolutely loaded with mushrooms and garlic. The pizza base was perfection. I’m in trouble now, they are located way to close to my house.
