Disappointed. We have been going to Malibu Mex for 15 years, but not in the last 4 years. We had great memories of a restaurant with generous serves of good food, with the legendary huge dish that, if finished, entitled you to another of the same – sounds greedy but it had the teenage boys begging to go there again and again.We just returned from a meal there tonight, so disappointed. It is obvious that it has changed hands and the new owners have changed many things. The service was ordinary with one very nice waitress and the other offhand. We didn’t see either of them again after they cleared plates, and had to get the bill made up on the way out. No offers of more drinks or desserts.The salad with the main meal was stingy – how much does it cost to be generous with some lettuce and tomato?? The serves were small, and the waimea ( the huge meal) could have been eaten by my granny. At $40 it’s bad value. Instead of another serve, it has changed to a $20 voucher which must be used within 2 months, not much use for a holiday maker who goes there every January.And to top it off, my husband now has diarrhoea, 4 hours after his meal. Coincidence?

The new owners have changed the menu to a new, healthier, option, but this translates to bland and luke-warm food. There are no cheese dips, no frijole dips, no jalapenos and no combo’s. Whilst the service is pleasant and the decor is still interesting, the food is an enormous letdown. Four words – DO NOT GO THERE!
