For something completely different, you have to try the Vietnamese egg coffee at LArte Cafe in Five Dock. Vietnamese coffee is filtered through a phin that sits on top of the glass to create a dark, bitter brew that is topped with a whipped foam of egg yolk and condensed milk. The story goes that the beverage was invented in Hanoi in response to a milk shortage; a clever local created the sweet milky froth by whisking together egg yolk and condensed milk, and creating a drink that is somewhat akin to liquid tiramisu. If you can get over the thought of egg in your coffee, its well worth a try.
