Great local Chinese for the Gordon/St Ives area. I’ve recently moved to St Ives and have eaten from Choyan three times now: two as takeaway and one as dine-in. The food has consistently been excellent and although it’s a slightly more expensive than the Golden Swallow a couple of doors down, I have found in general the food is much nicer. The entrees have been fresh and quickly prepared (steamed dim sims and spring rolls are excellent) and the oyster sauce beef and sweet and sour pork are fantastic. My only complain is the $20 minimum for Eftpos — ordering takeaway for one doesn’t often come to that value, and I was caught out the first time.
Worst Chinese dining experience in a long time.. Just came back from this place for Mother’s Day dinner. Must say it was extremely disappointing. The cumin lamb dish – did not taste like lamb at all, it’s hard to describe but it was over flavoured and far too thinly sliced and soft, didn’t taste like real meat tbh.Same thing goes for the salt and pepper pork rib, it feels like they’ve pounded the meat to soften it up but in the end it doesn’t take like the real deal and was also over flavoured. The greens were probably the saltiest dish of them all, completely necessary, mum was washing it through her tea to flavour it down.We also go the scallops, tough but passable. Didn’t have the dumplings but my brother liked them. Crispy skin chicken was the best dish on the table (not hard to get right though) but it wasn’t enough to offset the cost of it all. $159 for 5 people, when in effect, 2 were kids and half of all of it went uneaten, completely ripped off and a horrible mother’s day meal, would strongly discourage repeat business.
One of the best chinese places in the sydney area. Food is delicious and full of flavour. i love their duck with plum sauce.service is friendly and excellent, they know how to make you feel welcome and know exactly whento come back to the table to attend to the customers needs.the look of the interior is beautiful and retro, really warm environment.food: 9/10service: 9/10pricing: 8:10
Many happy memories of the Choyan over the years, especially Birthday Dinners with my family. Food and service make it great value for money especially for families. Don’t change a thing please Choyan!
The Best Chinese Restaurant in Sydney. Although my husband and I don’t live in Sydney anymore, we always make sure we visit here when we come back to visit family. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Would definitely recommend.
Enjoyed a traditional Chinese meal here this evening with whole family, a place we have dined at since the eighties! A large, pleasant, old-fashioned place with style and a real feel of old China. Probably best item is Peking duck pancakes, which are delicious and about 4-6 fill one up nicely. Lychees with ice cream is refreshing for the palette to finish up. This is a long-established, non-pretentious place, ideal for families or couples.
Same old, same old. This long standing Gordon restaurant serves the locals and business people of Gordon a predictable chow.Recently re-visited after past good experiences, sadly the standard of food has declined. Duck dish was ruined by an over powering unnamed sauce.A bit average however in terms of decor and certainly dishing out the same old same old….
