After reading the great review of dinner at Cascades, I decided to try the cooked breakfast, since it was price competitive with most cafes. Pleasantly surprised!The cook assured me that the eggs were freshly poached, but offered to cook me fresher ones to ensure I got a runny yolk. Warm pikelets and exotic sliced cheese. Tart rhubarb and sweet fresh passion fruit, and a fantastic (if confusing) coffee machine that people kept going back to. Plus all the usual suspects. If you are staying at the motel, have breakfast in the restaurant with the tradies.
What a surprise!. Stopped in Goulburn overnight on the drive Melbourne. Stopped in to the restaurant because it’s attached to the Motel. I expected oily fish and chips and burgers. What I didn’t expect was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Australia. The restaurant is very tastefully appointed, impeccably clean. The menu was a variety of sophisticated takes on old favorites. I had slow-roasted lamb ribs that were so tender you could cut them with a sharp look. Perfectly seasoned with a side of new potatoes and roasted vegetables, crisp and fresh. My wife had a lovely pan-fried Baramundi with sautéed scallops and squid ink pasta. Unable to resist we shared a white and dark chocolate cake with butterscotch sauce. It is worth making the drive from Melbourne to Sydney just to eat here. Any who eats at a Service Area while this lovely restaurant is open is cheating themselves.
