We had my daughter’s family 18th birthday dinner here last September on a Thursday night with 8 people. I’m surprised at the negative comments because I found the foot excellent, the service attentive and we all had a really pleasant night. I still remember the salt & pepper squid, the most tender I’ve ever had. We all had varied dishes everyone enjoyed their order. I’m not a coffee freak but I would have remembered a bad coffee – it wasn’t.
Average food, but the real issue with this restaurant seems to be the owner as the other reviews state. We ordered some Macchiatos at the end of our meal and they were the worst we’ve ever had. We’re not fussy, unreasonable people, if the food isn’t great but the service is good we’ll let it go, but the managers attitude was appalling. The coffee was beyond burnt and it tasted like the machine was well overdue for a de-scaling so we sent it back. The waitress at first took it away however after being questioned by the manager in clear view, came back to quiz us about what was wrong with it. As we couldn’t drink it we asked to have it taken off our bill, the manager stood in front of me rolling her eyes and shaking her head – so professional! Definitely won’t be returning and will be letting friends and family to stay away.
Lacking service – avoid!!. I made a booking for 6 here, when we arrived we were seated fairly quickly. We waited about 20 minutes to be told that there was no chicken, salmon or calamari left. We also recieved no apology for that. Being that half the menu contained one of these 3 ingredients, it changed a lot of the meal options. We then waited another 15 minutes and recieved no service, we then got up and left. That was 5 willing to pay customers that La Cucina basically threw out the door with the miserable service and lack of food.
I have never been compelled to write a bad review on any restaurant previously but after last nights experience I thought I would. We had a a booking for four people. We were squeezed onto a table the same size as the people on a table of 2 were and when we asked the wait staff if we could please move two tables together as there was around three empty tables around us they said no the tables were booked. We waited all night to see the people who had booked these tables but no one ever showed so we stayed squishy on the two seater all night. We then proceeded to wait 1 hour 40 for mains and did not even receive the garlic bread we ordered for 30 minutes. We were starving. We were very disappointed with the wait times as we had promised our friends amazing things but then when we bought this up to the managers that we were really disappointed with the waiting, we did not receive any compensation from them at all. Our friend also ordered the trio of gelato and the waitress could not tell us what the flavours were so he dug in to find out one of them was coffee flavoured which he was allergic to. When telling the manager we were not happy and wanted some compensation in the bill they threatened to call the police on us as we were stealing and and told us not to come back. Obviously we paid the entire bill but we felt like criminals
Every time I come to this restaurant it feels like eating at a friends house. Friendly and welcoming staff, delicious and well priced food, a warm and inviting decor. I’ve never found the food to be served slowly, as in some other reviews, but then again if I wanted my food reheated in a microwave and served in 5 minutes I would go to McDonalds. Always a popular restaurant and rightly so, my family and friends will continue to meet at La Cucina Gymea. Great coffee too!
