Simple Cafe in the main part of Newtown. Typical breakfast and cafe food but made quite well with large portions. The service here is amazing and it is clear there are many regulars who the employees remember. It is clear that customer service is on another personal level here!
I came here with my friend and I had the tropica chicken burger, which was delicious. It had tomato/lettuce/pineapple and was a massive burger. Definitely filled me up for lunch. I had the banana smoothie, which was good too. In addition, the service was great and the staff were friendly too. The place had great ambience and we were seated outside, enjoying the hustle and bustle of king street, in the heart of Newtown.
My absolute favourite!. I come in as often as I can, I was first introduced to funky monkey a year ago when the guy I was seeing took me there for breakfast one morning. I had the toasted ham and cheese crossiant and an ice coffee. A year later and I now come in with the same guy, my boyfriend and have breakfast when we can. I always have the Big Breakfast minus the sausage and an ectra hash brown with my ice coffee. I love this place and always crave their brekkies and delicious coffee. The staff here is a bonus and the owner is an utter delight. Could not ask for more. You must eat here sometime. I think the prices are quite reasonable. It’s always a comfort zone for me.
There is nothing remarkable about this cafe. I was worried when they asked if I wanted sauce in my burger. Thin dry patty, raw onions- forced myself to eat half of it. This was a really big dissappointment

My Favourite Newtown Cafe. I get coffee from the ‘Monkey at least once or twice a week, any excuse to sit in and soak up the casual, friendly atmosphere. The coffee is great, the menu is simple and inexpensive and the service is unbeatable. The staff are friendly and efficient, they remember your coffee and they always make sure you have fresh water and glasses at your table. All day breakfast is really good value and they have a great selection of sandwiches and burgers. My favourite order, a cheese and tomato croissant, will only set you back $4.50. Come in for the coffee, stay for the – everything else!
Good, Cheap Eats and Coffee. We got parking right outside so decided to have lunch here after reading the coffee was good. The menu is fairly small and basic, but the quality didn’t disappoint. We both had the veggie burger with sweet chilli sauce, and chips. $7.50 each for the burgers and $2 for a side of chips. The burger patty was good, with fresh tasting accompaniments and a nicely toasted bun. Chips were crisp and not oily, and the coffee was very good. There’s pavement seating and a toilet for anyone wanting to freshen up. Friendly staff.
