Love the kaya toast with eggs! Very authentic…I’ve been looking for a good kaya toast here in sydney and finally found it. Price isn’t too bad either.

Cafe Rumah is offereing a pretty cool concept: coffee, Malaysian treats and great mens clothes.I had coffee here a few times before I finally tried one of their treats. My god: what was I missing? They made the madeleines on the spot, freshly baked for you, and then some coconut jam, kawa, piped in the middle…For the full blog post, check out: andyquan.com/coffee-in-sydney-cafe-rumah/ andyquan.com
My favorite Malaysian inspired food cafe 2016-2017 by bar.You will find food here is very pretty presented and also very comforting.Me and my friends came and ordered food as posted bellow.Well, when the food came out… our hungry eyes are wide opened, and as usual, my iPhone7 snapping the dish first. The pork Belly bowl is just perfect for tour of Asian Brunch!Meat are cut chunks, proportion of fat and meat are just perfect!Coconut Custard is IG worthy snapping pictures, pretty well presented, and taste super good!Coffee Rumah was served cold, mixture of gula Melaka and hint of coconut milk you can find in a mix. Will come back for the Laksa!
We had the Madeleines, the Tom Yum chicken congee, the Asian Cuban and the rumah special, and they were all really tasty. The standouts were the congee which was really flavourful and the rumah special which is kind of a fizzy Bandung drink that was a unique take on the traditional Malaysian/Singaporean drink. Its a cosy, small cafe that is easily accessible and the staff was friendly too. Definitely worth a go!
Went to Cafe Rumah for lunch and had the Tom Yum Chicken Congee and it was delicious and one of the best meals I have had this year. The dish was packed with flavour and comes with poached chicken, wood ear mushroom, shallot, chilli, ginger, crispy rice vermicelli and a perfectly cook onsen egg that the yolk just oozed out of. The portion size was decent but I couldn’t help but order the freshly baked madeleines with house made Kaya. The madeleines took 15 minutes and were served hot straight out of the oven and melted in my mouth with a perfect Kaya filled centre. I love the Singaporean influence and I can’t wait to go back next weekend and try other items on the menu but I just don’t know if I will be able to go past the Tom Yum Chicken Congee.
Underrated treasure in lower Surry Hills. I keep coming back for the Tom Yum Congee, toasted sandwiches (brisket + cheese), pork belly rice and fresh juices. One of the most inventive menus in Sydney right now, I don’t know where else you would find modern Malaysian/Singaporean.
