Came here with a friend for dinner tonight. There was a line but thankfully not a long wait. We thankfully managed to beat the crowds. Not long after we were seated, the waitress came to take our order, but we were not ready, and asked for more time. The service was not particularly friendly, the waitress was quite abrupt even before we told her we needed more time.I ordered Amy’s noodles and for dessert the young coconut ice cream and sweet sticky rice topped with candied palm seeds, sweet potato in syrup and roasted peanuts. My friend had the gaeng sohm cha-om goong, and for dessert the sticky rice with mango.Amy’s noodles was delicious. The egg noodles had a nice bite, the flavour was a nice rich combination of saltiness and slight spice. There were two big juicy king prawns, and a reasonable amount of choi sum and wombok. Having said that, I think the flavour at the Circular Quay store was even better from memory.I tried some of my friend’s curry, which again was a really rich flavour, but slightly too salty. There was a very pungent smell of something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.. like….. shrimp paste or crab paste in the curry? A little bit unexpected, and can be off-putting for those not used to these flavours (I thought it was good). My friend found the curry too heavy and salty and wasn’t able to finish the dish with her side order of rice. The coconut icecream had only a very subtle taste of coconut. The sticky rice was fragrant and sweet. The roasted peanuts also added a nice fragrance and flavour to the dish. Everything combined really well, but I only realised when I got home and had another look at the photo of the menu that I realised.. there was no sweet potato in the dessert I received…The sticky rice with mango was also delicious. Before they brought it out, they came out to ask my friend if it was alright that the mango tonight was sweet but also slightly sour, which I felt was a nice touch. At some point we finished our jar of water, and it was taken away, so we thought it would be replenished, but it never appeared again. As soon as we were finished eating, plates were cleared immediately and we were unceremoniously handed the bill. There was a long line, so it was understandable they were trying to rush us out, but they could have been more friendly. Honestly I would have scored them a 4 had their service been better as the food was actually really delicious, but I did strongly feel that the service did take away from the experience.
Though the Chat Thai empire stretches across Sydney, the Chinatown branch remains the best in my personal opinion. The queues are long so be prepared to wait. However they open late with a smaller supper menu so you might prefer to try for that instead. The food is generally consistent and delicious. Some recommendations: crab omelette, duck curry, tom yum goong, pork belly pad prik khing, fried snapper with Chinese celery. The atmosphere is noisy and buzzy, with barely any space between tables. But somehow, it just adds to the dining experience rather than detracts from it.
Had never been here before, so come here with friends. Looking the queue always long, made me wonder how the food tastes like. I am not a expert in Thai food, but we ordered Musman Curry, Papaya Salad, Crying Tiger and Chicken Pad See Euw.- Musman Curry was fine, I would say a bit too sweet, and I dont know but I feel like I didnt really taste the creamy coconut milk in the soup.- Papaya Salad was pretty good, a bit of spice, and rich in flavours. – The crying tiger was quite good. The sauce on the side makes a bit spicy and the meat also juicy.- Chicken Pad See Euw was okay.Overall, I would give 3.5/5, food was decent, but I would say the portion isnt that big in size.
Definitely, a great Thai food Restaurant. The place was a bit cramped but I guess it was worth the wait and effort. We were a large group and the servers were definitely very patient and helpful in explaining the dishes.Interiors – Fairly modern and very ergonomically planned.Service – Was very good and energetic.Food :- Green papaya salad with shrimp was really tasty and refreshing.- Green curry of chicken was so luscious and tasty. The thai flavors were bursting in our mouths.- Crispy fried whole snapper was something very different to what I’ve eaten in the past. The flavors definitely were innovated by their chef. Delectable dish.Overall, a very authentic place for Thai cuisine.
CHAT THAI @CBDOne of the best thai food in Sydney and it is highly recommended. This place is almost always crowded, and they open until pretty late as well. So glad it close until pretty late around 2AM, soooo perfect for midnight snacksOrdered:-Padt thai-Padt Si EwThese two menus are delicious and over the top, one of the best I have ever tried. The noodles are perfectly cooked, the chicken as well, they give a lot of veggies and other spices inside it, I enjoyed it so much. They have friendly staff as well, the food came around 10-20mins.Highly recommended for family gathering, they have such authentic thai food flavors, very very flavorful.Rate? 5
Although the lines are long, it is definitely worth the wait! I love how this place opens late. I feel like all the dishes are tasty regardless of what you pick! My boyfriend and I pretty much just winged it and chose random items from the menu and every single one of them was delicious! I loved how the yellow curry had crab in it and the bbq pork had a really nice smoked flavour to it. I think you should come in groups to try everything on the menu!
This place always has a queue during dinner time. The longest I’ve ever waited at this branch is more than 1 hour 15mins, it was a chaotic and unpleasant experience. If you’re walking in, try to be there before 6.30pm. Table will not be given unless all members of the party have arrived. The restaurant was busy as usual. The staff did not rush us through our main meal, maybe because we had dessert pre-ordered. The stir fried duck was very good, juicy, tender, and not too spicy. I found the som dtum lack of papaya, the serving was pretty small, good for just 2 people. Mango sticky rice was typical like any other you’d get elsewhere.Overall, the experience was fine maybe due to the fact that we didn’t need to wait for a table this time around. Public holiday surcharge 10% applies. Hope that goes to paying the staff.
