So sad today when we went to visit the Chinese Garden of Friendship and ask for the devonshire tea, after 20yrs of enjoying such a beautiful place and scones, to be told that the scones are no longer available, we like many others chose not to enter. Bring back the devonshire tea or is it just about making money? Not everyone eats dumplings etc.

What a superb spot to spend an afternoon in the sun! If you need to escape from the inner city stress and pace, a visit to this lovely garden will nourish the soul and leave you feeling replenished. The teahouse is situated to the right as you enter, and they do recommend you view the garden in an anticlockwise direction which means you come here last. There are sweet treats like scones w jam and cream and a variety of cupcakes and pastries. There are also light meals like dumplings, quiche and salad or gourmet rolls but I am here for the traditional tea! There are 12 different types of aromatic loose leaf teas and they are served in pots. I chose the green chai that had hints of cinnamon, anise and ginger. Very refreshing whilst looking over the lily pond!

I LOVE this tea house! Whilst the inside of the tea house is very cafeteria-like, it can be excused because the seating outside is awesome! It has gorgeous views of the garden. They sell traditional Chinese food including a plate of different Chinese sweets! Their tea range is extensive too! This place emerges you in Chinese culture if you get tea, some dumplings and just relax in the garden. Amazing.

This is a great location. Just a really different, evocative place to meet for a coffee/tea and cake. Set within the Darling Harbour Chinese Garden with its beautiful water features and landscaping, you forget you’re in the centre of Sydney. The food options are limited but ok. We just had some cakes and coffee, scones with cream and jam. Perfectly good. While there an Indian Miner bird alighted on the edge of one of our plates and flew off with a beak full of cake, a Water Dragon emerged from the pond and scuttled about under our chairs looking for crumbs and a little brown duck wandered between tables imploring diners for scraps. Unique.

This place has limited food range but it’s acceptable considering this cafe is within the garden. The Chinese pastries were nice to nibble on and the milkshake was also good. Definitely a great spot to enjoy your coffee- the view is great 😀

In such a beautiful setting, for the visitor, the food could be a secondary consideration but fortunately the tea house doesn’t think of it that way. A pot of Jasmine tea with small but tasty dumplings was just perfect as a mid-afternoon snack.

Limited range of food for a teahouse. They don’t have the greatest range of food for a teahouse but sitting at the table overlooking a lake and beautiful garden does somewhat make up for it. Very limited tea and dumpling selection. Sandwiches were pre made and if you order one asking to have it without a specific item they can’t change it. Service was friendly though.
