My 10 dollars were lost because of one of the bartenders’ poor transaction. Looking at other people’s comment, this place doesnt seem to know how to minimize money transaction troubles, and it keeps happening.
Typical Sydney CBD pub i.e. not very good.Pokies, TAB, sports bar, you know the drill. The interior looks like it was last updated in 1985, the clientele is somewhat dubious and the staff are not exactly overly friendly. It does have a reasonably sized outdoor area to people-watch the hubub of Chinatown pass by.The selection of beers is fairly standard – the usual mass-produced Aussie favourites although I did also spot Kirin and James Squire’s 150 Lashes for a little variety. To be fair they are only catering to their market – I don’t imagine there are many requests for Brewdog Punk IPA here. It’s a pity as there is definitely a need for a decent pub in this area, if only to provide a refuge for men whilst their wives shop in Market City. thernbdiary.com

Dismal, Dirty and Depressing!. I had the misfortune to go here for a few drinks last week and was immediately struck by the miserable atmosphere. The staff on duty at the time (a young guy and a wheezing bespectacled manager who looked like death warmed up!) were rude and impersonal, and I got the distinct impression that smiling and small-talk would most likely be punishable by death! The chubby neanderthal providing ‘security’ at the venue was unwelcoming, overtly aggressive and had literally no redeeming features whatsoever. Listening to the sad (very drunk) individuals strenuously trying to imitate their idols through their karaoke tributes was pitiful. What a bleak bar for the entrance to Sydney’s beautiful Chinatown!
No warmth. As a 20 year veteran of the Covent Garden Hotel, I believe that it has now become just another cold, unwelcoming modern pub………the same as all the rest….whereas it used to have character, warmth and a casualness which made everyone feel at home. It’s small and cramped and it feels as though the stage has been shoved into a corner at the last minute. It shows that progress is not automatically improvemant.
Good People Watching. Never eaten there (didn’t know you could), but situated at the bottom end of Dixon St., opposite Paddy’s Markets, it’s a great place to sit outside, have a coldie & watch the passing parade – especially all the various buskers & hawkers on the weekends.
