Hidden away on the lower ground of a building on Dixon street, my partner and I found ourselves in this funky looking chinese skewer restaurant which had a chinese guy singing live. Beware coming here if you are unable to speak Chinese, we struggled to order as the menu was not English friendly. Staff were also very bad at English, luckily we found one which could explain the menu to us. The restaurant serves mainly chinese customers and was pretty packed on a Friday night. So after a long period of trying to understand the menu and how things work here, we finally figured it out. So the menu shows all the types of skewers you can order from the kitchen. Theres an option of spice level which you can select once you are ready to order and you are also able to order additional spicy seasoning to sprinkle on top of your skewers. You can also order 2 rounds, which I believe means that you will get another round of skewers at a later time after the first round is complete. When your skewers are ready, they pop these onto a tray which is heated up with candles. Overall, the skewers were ok – it was disappointing as you could tell the skewers had been cooked a while ago and were just being lightly warmed up again. It would definitely taste better if cooked fresh. The skewers also add up in price. At $10 per set, its crazy how quickly the bill skyrockets up to $100 after a few items are set. I would not recommend the roasted vegetables they have. These were smeared with a large layer of garlic paste. The garlic paste reminded me of the packaged ones you could get at the supermarkets in the unfrigerated area – it was very overpowering and distasteful. These dishes were not pleasant at all. The ambience of this restaurant is refreshing and nice. We actually enjoyed the singing and liked the decor that the restaurant had. Its a shame that the skewers were pre made and not seasoned with stronger flavours. Another thing to note is if you pay by cash you get 5% off.
