+3 standard points for standard food+1 Pure. Matcha. Heaven. +1 Sophisticated flavour and texture layeringNoise level: loudRecommended:Matcha Sundae or Matcha Jelly Sundae(jelly and chia was refreshing and cool. Matcha ice cream was pure flavour. Sweetness balanced by red bean paste. Texture provided by crunchy honeycomb or waffle cone, chewy rice cake, and fluffy sponge cake)Venue: a bit of a line and seating can be sparse. Interior is well lit, comfortable and clean.Price: great price point. Will return for:FondueSoft serveDrinks

Matchaya is a very cute and cosy desert place that offers a range of matcha and similar asian flavoured deserts. We personally really enjoy the matcha ice cream and the parfaits. The presentation is always pleasing however the portions a bit small. Nevertheless we had a really nice and enjoyable experience and will be back!

Nice green tea ice cream. They have a large range of other desserts and drinks too. The venue itself is quite pleasant, clean and airy. Free water with lemon in it is a nice touch. There is an outdoor seating which is also quite pleasant

Caught up with my colleagues for drinks at Matcha-Ya. They have all sorts of drinks and desserts containing matcha, even lunches and savory dishes! I opted for the houjicha latte which was flavorsome and creamy. Loved it! Cant wait to try their other desserts next time round theengineereats.com

I’m someone who typically prefers to follow their tastebuds, seeking flavour over aesthetic or ambience (see: my love for dirty Hawker-style food courts). With that being said, a first time visit to Steam Mill Lane warranted a stop by at the new match joint. The whole food lane is quite upscale and very ‘insta’ worthy. I ordered the Houji-cha latte ($5) and Shiramata Waffle sundae ($7). The waffle sundae was nothing special, it’s essentially a normal ice cream cone with mochi balls, red bean paste and chiffon cake, I probably wouldn’t get this if you’re looking for something new to try but it’s a safe option. The Houji-cha latte on the other hand, firstly; was beautifully presented in a ceramic cup and secondly had a really unique toasted quality that was reminiscent of a cross between roasted sesame seeds and green milk tea. I would therefore recommend the Houji-flavoured desserts here if you’re feeling adventurous and looking to channel your inner Dora the Explorer

A good place to grab all matcha related desserts & drinks in this Japanese inspired dessert bar. They also have Houji Cha (Roasted green tea) flavour drinks & desserts as well as savoury options, such as Matcha wasabi nori chips or Pork katsu with rice in matcha sauce or Matcha udon. I opted dessert & a drink. Both were beautifully made. Shiratama lovers, featuring matcha jelly, red bean paste & glutinous rice balls topped with fresh whipped cream, honeycomb & a cracker on the side. It comes with black sugar syrup & your choice of sauce to pour over the dessert. Their Sakura flower matcha lemonade soda was very refreshing, there was sweet & sour taste from the lemon & dried sakura flower with a hint of matcha in it. A perfect drink to sip on during summer days.
