Am a longtime customer of this unassuming eatery, and the food and service is what keeps me coming back. One only has to look at the pictures lining the walls to see they have a very extensive menu, mainly Chinese fare with smatterings of Vietnamese, Thai and Malaysian.Set meals are generally good value- around (or just under) $30 for 2 people for 2 choices off a decently long list, with soup, standard chinese veggies (chinese broccoli stir fried with garlic) and unlimited rice included. Portion sizes are such that I find that I’m often bringing leftovers home if I get the two person set meal and I’m dining with someone else, and that the 3 person set meal for $40 (39.90?) feeds a family of 4 comfortably. I thoroughly enjoy their soft shelled crab, the stewed eggplant with mince, the 5 cup chicken, their house special stir fried pork belly (don’t actually know the name) and their steamed fish. The service is quick, polite and friendly- they are able to accommodate for dietary requirements and can adjust oil/salt levels if you wish. Will continue to be a patron of this restaurant as long as it’s open.
Seriously disappointing food. Nothing against the service at all. The service we received was lovely. However taste is a total let-down. Have been to a fair share of Chinese restaurants over the years but this one is going to stay in our memories for the wrong reasons. Had 4 dishes and none tasted as expected. Maybe this was their bad day but we will never be returning.
Cheap and tasteful place to eat!!!!. Avoiding any need to contemplate decor, the owners of this joint have simply plastered every wall and window with menu pictures. The egg flower soup ($7.80 special – $10.80) doesn’t rate a mention on the bewilderingly large pan-Asian menu but can be requested. It’s a viscous, cornflour-thickened mix with few ingredients: house-made stock, egg, sugar and enough salt to induce a thirst. This shop was also listed on the Goodfood Sydney Morning Herald from 2011-2014.http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/eat-out/review/restaurant/mama-takeaway-20120228-2aa70.htmlhttp://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/eat-out/review/restaurant/mama-takeaway-20130316-2uv37.htmlLove this place will come back again!!!Also the dumplings are great!
Pleasant, No Frills eatery in Hurstville. A Dying breed.. The decor is very dixon centre where this restaurant originated from but the food is genuine and nice. This is a no frills dining experience where you get a very reasonable meal for a very reasonable price which is getting difficult to find in Hurstville these days. The service is attentive and polite and the food arrives pretty quickly. The menu is very large which originally worried us but everything we ordered was very good.
Humble, affordable fare with a wide variety of dishes. Not necessarily the tastiest or the most exquisite but unbeatable value for money in Hurstville.
