Cha Chaan Teng, a Hong Kong style cafe. Tried their Hainanese chicken rice, not a bad dish but definitely not authentic. The chicken was tender but not poached tender. It was more like steamed chicken to me. The colour & texture of the chicken was different to others. The chilli sauce was a joke, it was nothing like the real thing. They just pour the plain red chilli sauce you buy from the supermarket. Its supposed to be a garlicky, gingery chilli sauce. As for $18.80, they have to do better than that. However the fragrant aromatic rice was the star of the dish, it has a slight hint of the flavour of the chicken and it wasnt greasy at all. The only problem was the plate was too small, the rice often spilled on the table when I was eating it. The beef brisket noodle was nice, beef brisket was fork tender. The glutinous rice balls dessert was yum, they were generously coated with ground peanuts, toasted sesame seeds & coconut crumbles and they have got the perfect chewy texture. Overall the food is not bad but a bit pricey compared to others. Hainanese chicken rice in other places is range from around $12-$15. The glutinous rice balls are in small portion sizes but it costs over $10.
