Up Beet is closed now I discovered but there’s a bigger version called Big Beet further down Katoomba Street at no 79, just past Rivers, turn right and you can’t miss it inside the old library/cultural centre courtyard on the way to the Coles complex. It has the same vegan menu Up Beet had. There’s always a good background music selection and it has a chilled vibe. Staff are friendly, and kid friendly too, and servings are well sized (ie: not as big as your head!) and well priced. Coffee is always good. Toasties and Ra’s dahl are good and the tomato bruschetta is fresh and generous but has lost a bit of the truffle dressing pizzaz it had at Up Beet. You can have the contents of a wrap as a poke bowl with, hummus, pesto or guacamole (without the fish obviously) – a super healthy and tasty option. Well worth visiting, healthy food, good coffee and plenty of seating even when it’s busy.
Kinda didn’t expect all that much because we were hungry on the way past Katoomba and just needed a quick bite. Stopped to get a juice and toastie from Up Beet and I have to say the roast potato toastie is VERY impressive. It had a good amount of ingredients and was well toasted with DELICIOUS potato . Will literally have random cravings for this but shame it’s so far from Sydney. If you’re in the area, this cafe is a must stop!
Tried Up Beet for the first time on a recent trip to the mountains, and it was by far the stand out meal of our stay in Katoomba, Blackheath and Leura. We had the chilli hot chocolate and golden latte (?) which were really nice, and the pea dumplings and a breakfast wrap. It’s so great to see vegetarian places trying to mix it up. As a vegan, the best thing for me was that when I requested the wrap without the egg, they automatically offered to substitute it for a fritter. It sounds small but I’m so used to paying full price for meals after removing eggs/cheese/meat and never being offered a substitute, so thanks guys!! The whole menu was very reasonably priced and the service was great. A must for any vegos in the area.
Best salad wrap ever. Good customer service too. Would drive back to Katoomba just for the wrap. Comfy couches.. Amazing green smoothie. Everything was perfect. Good for long catch ups with friends!
