its getting worse somehow. The service is always not good. I like the karaage there but they used to have fruit with the bento and now they don’t. I’m quite disappointed.
Sushi Bento is in a side street off Anzac parade in Kensington. They offer entrees, sushi, sashimi, sushi and sashimi box sets and bento boxes. I selected a bento box and got teriyaki chicken (which was very nice), rice, salmon sashimi and salmon nigiri. I also wanted agedashi in the box (as it is a small add on. The waiter was a bit annoyed we both weren’t getting something so essentially made me get the agedashi as a separate dish, and hence more expensive. The food was nice, service was fast but their manner was a bit odd. Cash only aroundtheclockfoodie.com
Had a bento box. Tempua undercooked vegetables with rubbery batter.. Not crisp… Karaage was not crisp…oil flavour tastes old… Had mayo… Asked for tonkotsu (bulldog) sauce to cover flavour but shop had no clue about japanese food.. Sashimi wasn’t overly fresh… Disappointed there are no good places in kingsford for Japanese food
The bento is awesome value, so much choice, great sushi.Good place to have a few wines over dinner with friends. The Guy that runs the place is super nice too.
As aforementioned by the other sole review, upon trying this place with my friend, he alluded to the distinct taste of chinese in the flavour. Not the way I like to start my japanese cravings which has to be said. The service is relatively quick and the staff are friendly, however the main part which is the food is where this place suffers. It’s gives a filling portion if you’re getting one of the bentos, however that’s all there is to it. The taste is lacking, and is better suited to satisfy your stomach than your taste-buds, which is why it is alluring for students or takeway options.
This Japanese restaurant is run by Chinese people which is rather unusual – as it’s more common to see Koreans do Japanese food but rarely by Chinese. Miso was served as we seated on the table, my first thought was interesting Miso soup – it was rather weak in Miso flavour but wasn’t bad. We ordered 2 bento boxes with different menu options and assorted Sashimi and sushi sets. I have to say the serving is very generous and it is well priced. However they completely failed on Vegetable tempura – this was absolute worst – it was simply not eatable. Interestingly Prawn tempura was alright. Chicken Karage was okay but it was definitely more Chinese style than Japanese. Teriyaki chicken and Tokoyaki was okay. Sashimi was Salmon pieces with scallops and they were fresh. Service was good. goodtasteguide.blogspot.com
